Billy Embody is killing it over on 247 with his basketball recruiting coverage and they couldn't have brought him on at a better time. Makes it almost worth it to be subscribed over there just for him

Embody is seriously legit, cant believe the insight and coverage on basketball there now

I'm saying a kid will not wait 2 to 3 years to get playing time because most coaches bring in better talent the following years, kids want to play and not spend their whole 4 years being groomed.

Aundre Hyatt, who recently got a CB to LSU and is visiting on the 4th announced he is committing on the 10th and will be reclassifying to 2018. However, he'll likely be redshirting as he rehabs from an injury

Hyatt should just commit on the 4th. He's going to redshirt for 18 and heal up like Bigby-Williams did last year (he wasn't hurt).

If he's headed here, now comes the guessing game of who gets booted to make the room

Haven't we already seen that Rachal isn't in like any of the summer photos and videos that have been put out?
Have to believe it's either Rachal or Sims unless someone is giving up their scholly for the year

I know baseball pairs a portion of a baseball scholarship with an academic scholarship.
What's the difference between an academic and athletic scholarship?
What's stopping LSU from putting Skylar Mays on an academic scholarship?

Pretty sure once you go on athletic scholarship you cant go off it and be a walk on (at same school in same sport)

I could be wrong, but I think walk ons pay for certain things that scholarship players don’t. Like, they don’t get the same amount of free gear and meals as a scholarship player. I could be wrong tho, but that would make sense. Mays could probably go to Tulane for free if he wasn’t an athlete so I’m sure there is a reason he is on an athletic scholarship rather than just an academic one

That’s wrong. The only difference besides tuition is they also pay for room and books.

I generally don’t share anything from 247; but I asked the question to Billy about how he sees this playing out if Hyatt chooses LSU. Since his response wasn’t anything revealing, I don’t mind sharing.
He basically stated that the staff will work out the numbers and that the staff “loves Rachal.” Take that for what it’s worth.
Not sure anyone really knows anything as Wade has proven he is very adept at keeping things quiet until he is ready for information to get out. He seems to be his own PR guy, which only adds to his list of skills. I think Billy and Worsham usually get wind of some things; but they seem to not run with it till Wade gives the okay to do so.

You can get academic scholarships that cover books and room. They give stipends I’m pretty sure.

Maybe, but basketball is a head count sport so I’d think it’d be all wrapped into one.
Ok end hijack. Back to the recruiting.

Just posted this in the separate thread on Hyatt; but since he has been talked about here too, I figured I would share.
Billy Embody just retweeted a Pitt journalist stating that Hyatt has cancelled his visit to Pitt; but is maintaining his LSU visit as of now. I believe that leaves LSU as his only visit left assuming he doesn’t add another.
With the reports of LSU trending, this could point to a likely LSU commitment on Aug. 10 from Hyatt.

If we get Hyatt, who seems to intend to redshirt, that looks like we'll have three guys (the two late add JUCOs) all redshirting this season.
It's an interesting way to build the roster. It keeps the available game minutes spread out over fewer players, but you don't lose those bodies for practice. It can help build program continuity as well. I'm a big proponent of using the redshirt for basketball. It's why I like when we take in transfer big men. Most of those guys need a redshirt year to develop their skills and build strength without having the game pressure.

The transfer guard is playing this year. He’s suppose to be real good
I think Wade said he would have been comfortable to start him this year if Waters left. It might have been Embody that said that but those words are from inside the program.

Ah okay, so just Cooper would be taking the RS. I remember reading that one of them would. For some reason I thought both would.

It's expected that Taylor is an impact rotation player. Still not sure how these numbers will work.

My bet is we’d lose the JUCO redshirt but I’m just spit balling.
