Agreed. I normally am OK with a player following his own path.

But this is a unique situation. Verge's issues with the Title IX investigation, on top of him being involved in the coaching search.

If his own son doesn't come to LSU after all that, it's a bad look. Sometimes you have to sit your children down and tell them they have to do what's best for the family.

Verge. Should have been canned already, but if after all that and LSU sticking by you can’t deliver your sons then you’ve got to go.

That's not his job. It's the kids' decision not his.

Comments like this are dumb.

You have no idea what the decision making dynamic is in that family.

Well, that's fine. If they don't come...

LSU is bending over by even retaining him on the staff. He should be fired whether we do/don't get his sons here. Clearly LSU is keeping him as an incentive for his sons and if not CYA!

I'm not paying for my kids to go to college. At that point, they will be adults, why in the hell would a parent feel that's their decision to make?

To be clear: They all followed Cooks on Twitter before Raymond going and Cooks coming to LSU?
Yes or No answer probably best.
Where is this from, Monkey7?

Thanks for the Auburn info Tiger Don. It’s so weird to me why would a cb and lb want to go to Auburn over LSU. We have been DBU and lately LBU. Hope we can land him.

I think we'll be fine at DB recruiting, Cooks is a really good coach & kids love him. Last year Busch got Davis & Faulk got Sage. Raymond got MacGee(#13 CB). This year Raymond got Welch(#20 CB) and Rhym(#19 CB). Even 2020 class Toles was all Busch & Ricks was mostly due to Ed's Cali connections.

Yeah. Verge.
If that happens, then it’s obvious that he and his family aren’t in tAlignment.

Cheri really liked the trip to Auburn. I can see both brothers playing out of state. They were also very close with old coaches - who are no longer here (Moffitt, Raymond, etc.)….. my gut says they’re leaving the state. Many private/ lab school kids are doing this….including mine

Five things to know about LSU assistant coaching target Kerry Cooks

KOKI RILEY | LAFAYETTE DAILY ADVERTISER | 20 hours ago

LSU football will be hiring former Notre Dame and Oklahoma assistant coach Kerry Cooks as its defensive backs coach, according to The Athletic.

Cooks will likely be replacing Corey Raymond, who left LSU for Florida following 10 seasons as the Tigers' cornerbacks coach.

Here are five things to know about Cooks.

Cooks had two different stints with Notre Dame

Cooks was a defensive analyst at Notre Dame this past season but previously served as Fighting Irish's outside linebackers coach in 2010, cornerbacks coach in 2011, a co-defensive coordinator from 2012-13 and defensive backs coach in 2014 under Brian Kelly.

Under Cooks' lead in 2012, the Fighting Irish's defense finished second in the nation in yards per completion and allowed only 11 touchdown passes as Notre Dame reached the BCS National Championship

He was an assistant defensive coordinator at Oklahoma
Cooks spent four seasons at Oklahoma as an assistant defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. While he was at Oklahoma, the Sooners led the Big 12 in the fewest passing yards allowed in 2015 and total yards allowed, with just 364.5.

Cooks was also at Texas Tech as a safeties coach for two years following his time at Norman.

Cooks has a strong history in recruiting
Cooks has also been the lead recruiter for five top-100 prospects, including 20 four-star players.

Most notably, Cooks was Notre Dame's lead recruiter for Jerry Tillery's services in 2015. Tillery was a four-star recruit at Evangel Christian at the time.

Don't bring your weird arse parenting to the thread. Normal people don't relinquish all parenting responsibilities at 18.

Regarding the original point: Verge makes $500,000 per year. He needs to protect that. That's a family issue. Mature children make the right decisions for their family.

No but the influence would be there. Loyalty to the institution that provides your dad a good living is natural. To not choose LSU because “they want to go out of state” is a slap in the face to LSU and their dad.

And to a rival of all places? If you want to go out of state to expand your horizons or whatever, get out of the south and go to the North or West. Staying in our damn conference to compete against the school that pays their dad’s salary is ridiculous.

Let’s be honest here. If Verge’s 2 highly recruited sons don’t come to LSU after LSU took heavy damage(rightfully so) by retaining him, then that’s a disgrace.

Maybe it’s unsavory to think that way but it’s the real world

Mike S. said tonight on Twitter Spaces that he believes now that Austin Ausberry will be signing with LSU. He said two weeks ago he would have said Florida or Auburn, but after this weekend he's thinking LSU.

Did he say why 2 weeks ago it would've been auburn?
