Just a thought about D-Line recruiting.

I see we have a bunch of lean, fast edge rushers. Our biggest recruit is Reed , listed at 265. Any one concerned we have not got no big run stuffers ?

It’s a valid concern, along with the lack of linebackers. This is a very strong class and will do wonders for Brian Kelly the next 4-5 years.
However, DT and LB will need to be addressed through the transfer portal.

Was looking at that as well, not a lot of good DT prospects in state for 23 or 24.

I do think this is an abnormal year regarding numbers that allows you to arrange your class differently than you’d probably have to otherwise. They can take probably 30 HS kids and still have room for 3-5 transfers at those light spots in the class.

Seemed like they wanted washington for dt.

Reed is listed at 282 on On3. Roy was around 285 when he signed and is now around 315.

Body types for a couple of those guys could lend themselves to moving inside after getting in the weight program. Also depends how House wants to use these guys - I highly doubt we see anybody in a 0, 0 shade or 1 tech (as much as I’d love to see Glenn Dorsey play again).
I’d expect to see some of these guys in 3 or 5 tech, but as House has talked about - we want to be multiple, so need athletes to do that.

Reed and Womack could play inside imo.

These guys are 16 and 17 year olds and are 6’5” 265. When you are 6’5 you can easily gain 25-40 lbs. and still be very athletic and quick. I think that’s what they’re looking for. These guys still have a year to develop their bodies. They could be 285 or 290 by the time they hit campus.
If the need for size comes into play then they can add guys from the portal and I also don’t believe we’re done at DL. But no I think our coaches know exactly what they’re doing. They know that some of these kids have the body type that grows into itself with the right direction.
Our coaches explain what they should do, they listen to their future coaches and they start seeing their bodies grow. LSU then refines that when they get to campus and we have very big, strong, quick and tough athletes playing all down the DL. If that doesn’t happen as they plan, they go to plan B. Trust me they have backup plans.

I think the days of going after guys that are 350 that need to loss weight are over. we are going after athletes that are lean and can add good weight.. That goes for O-line and D-line… and I like it..!

Yea, I think that's the smart thing.

Will Campbell gained 20 pounds or so between senior year and getting on campus. I like the approach Kelly is doing. With our nutrition center and strength program, they can add good weight.
