Check out my post. There is basically no way that he is below even the average for Stanford football players, much less the minimum cut-off.
Hope he can go to another top academic school.
Come to Duke, Jontrey

damn. i just read two more articles about this.
this is a friggin abomination.
Stanford and all the left-coast P.C. bullshite they spew and then they shite on an underprivileged kid like this who has done nothing but work hard and achieve at a high level? not to mention....if the kid can score a 26 with a shitty Louisiana education, makes you wonder how well he can do with some decent instruction.
i am as far from a bleeding heart as it comes. in fact, i am a bit of a hardass about stuff like this. you don't make the grade, you don't get in. but this reeks of foul play.
somebody needs to take those guys to task. i respect their right to do something like this, but after looking at their admissions stats, friggin 15% of the student body scored in the 24-29 range.
anyone posted about this on the SECRant? i think we should write the guy's congressman.

The kid only got a 26 on his ACT. That's less than an 1800 on the SAT. He's also 2 Stars from RIVALS.
LINK
My son was rejected by Stanford last year as an unweighted 4.0 [8 AP classes with six of them "5s" and a 2230 SAT [ACT equivalent to a 34].
He was a golfer, played in the State Championship at many different age groups, beat or tied his HS Captain who's on a full ride golfing for UNLV [still, with a 2 handicap, my son wasn't Stanford, UNLV or LSU golf material]. Its probably the equivalent of a 3-Star football player.
Had he had a 35 / 2330 on the SAT, it may have been hard for Stanford to pass on him [simply as a student]. As such, he's sucking it up at Georgia Tech...
We had two kids from his HS get into Stanford last year. The Baseball Pitcher had a 2200 and a 3.92 and was hispanic. The other had much better academic and test numbers and also was part hispanic. Stanford really strives to bring in as much diversity in their classes as possible.
Jontrey has an offer from Houston and Washington State [Mike Leach now coaches them]. He'll be fine. Even if he goes to one of those schools and isn't finding the academic challenge he desires, if he's truly a Division 1 player, he can always transfer...

They offered the kid, and his academic numbers are on par with (or beyond) the standard of Stanford's football team. So, the question is what changed?

The Stanford coaches say its all due to Stanford Admissions. Perhaps the first semester transcript didn't reflect the difficulty of courses Stanford expects of their students. Stanford also requires SAT Subject tests and we don't know what happened on those scores from the article. If one takes honors or Advanced Placement courses in Louisiana and receives an "A", do they get 4.0 for the grade in that class or 5.0? Many states allow for that increase and reward the GPA for taking harder courses. If Louisiana does the same, then the 4.0 doesn't necessarily say the student took every difficult course available and performed full "A" quality work in every class.
Until the Admissions Department sees and reviews the transcripts through the end of the first semester of the senior year, nothing is guaranteed. I'll bet the "offer" he received was provisional on his academics meeting Stanford requirements. Its just not as simple as black and white numbers of test scores and grades. That is what places so much stress on kids today to get into highly selective colleges and universities. They have to perform excellent in the class room, be awesome on the field and also be involved in a half dozen other awesome activities. Its for that reason that there is a multi $$ Billion industry out there just helping kids get into the very top schools.
All I know is that my son witnessed a few wacky things when it came to the admitted departments making big promises and then the Financial Aid folks pulling a "no-show". That happened for us with University of Michigan [and their golf coach was communicating with him]. Unless one is a cream of the crop athlete, there's really no sure-thing through these processes.
