I never use that word. But you can't tell someone they can't use it. First amendment gives him the right to say it.

I'm not trying to offend anyone. My son is autistic and I've heard several people describe his condition that way.
It bothers me somewhat because he is far from it. He is very smart and has a unique way of communicating and expressing his feelings.

My son is also on the spectrum. But some people use that word and it's hurtful. But some people don't think of that. But as much as it's not right, people are aloud to say things like that. Just have to ignore it. There are too many people on social media telling people what they can say and if they don't get their way, try to cancel them.

Growing up in the 70's and 80's, they was a regular part of vocabulary. That or spaz. So I guess we can substitute that word with dumb arse.

My child has down syndrome, I would never use the word retarded to refer to anyone with actual mental retardation, as that's terrible...however I certainly will use it if a non special needs person is doing some retarded shite.
