Stingley is a fricking freak. There were like 13 passes attempted on him his senior year in HS with no completions and 7 interceptions. Then he was a freshman all-american at LSU making massively clutch plays on a championship team, was a top 3 draft pick, and he's clamping down NFL receivers

I love Stingley he was great talent…. But at the Same time I think some on here also romanticize how good his LSU career was. After his freshmen year he didn’t do much of anything. Injuries played a big roll but he didn’t exactly replicate his monster freshmen year. He also got utterly destoryed by Devonta smith and van Jefferson

This is what makes him so special. The way he moves at a legit 6'3. Sucks kade Phillips flipped cause lsu was set for s long time with Pickett, anding, and phillips. I think anding is going to be a great lsu corner. He has ball skills.

Agreed guys pickett size shouldn’t move the way he does. Pickett and Phillips with Anding in the slot would’ve been utterly ridiculous smh but Anding and Pickett is still a crazy duo jus gotta find a 3rd stud to pair with them.

Stingley was not only the best CB in the country - CLEARLY the best CB in the country - as a true freshman

No he wasn’t. He was the best freshman in the country, and he was All SEC good, which is saying something. But he wasn’t the best yet. Stingley had the ability to be, but his technique was awful. Great receivers sliced and diced him when we played Florida and Bama. Stingley had the immature tendency to leave his backpedal too soon - before the WR committed to a side. When that happened the good WRs crossed under him and got separation. He had that problem throughout his freshman year.

Stout in the middle, pass rush, and good safety play can make a huge difference.

Yea I had similar sentiments about Stingley in a comment I made earlier. It’s why elite route runners like van Jefferson and Devonta smith took him to school. I remember the Florida game directly Kyle trask went at Stingley up and down the field an entire drive. Stingley has a tendency of opening the gate early and committing to a side. More often than not it worked for him cause he was a great athlete esp when he faced big body wideouts. But anytime he faced a route runner who can change directions they got the best of him.

Well, it’s an either/or thing, you either need the beast DT’s tackles that blow everything up through the middle against the run and pass which takes pressure off the back end of the defense or you need 2 lock down corners to take the pressure off the front side of the defense. I’m betting on Pickett to be and immediate impact player and then you bring in a guy like Jackson from Florida that’s proven he can perform at an SEC level. I think McKinley will become a dominant DT but LSU doesn’t have 2, so I was going the CB route.

Was Stingley, Stingley good?

He was good for a year, iirc

If you want to compare him to elite DB's that played at LSU, and were elite from the moment they stepped on campus to the day they left, Peterson is your guy

Or better is crazy. Stingley is emerging as a top CB in the NFL right now.

“Stingley wasn’t elite because he didn’t lockdown a Heisman winner and another 1st rounder in 2 games”

Where do you people come from?

Are you referring to 2019? Smith didnt really take him to school. I feel like you are just looking at stats.

One catch was a 65 yard fluke play where LSU coaches were trying to signal to Stingley and BAMA ran a hurry up play. Stingley was pissed at the sideline. An 85 yard catch and score was after tha game was out of hand for BAMA. LSU Prevent D caused that one.

Those absolutely were not the only plays smith worked him. He burned Stingley on a double move go ball in the 3rd quarter. Granted it wasn’t bad coverage by Stingley but smith still stacked him and made the catch. He also beat Stingley on a slant on 4th down in the 4th quarter. A lot of ppl bring up the hurry up deep td to defend Stingley’s performance that game but he was struggling vs smith for all 4 quarters . The last deep ball he gave up wasn’t even prevent defense we ran bump n run man coverage and smith burned him. Granted it was idiotic we ran press coverage at that spot but we did and stingley got beat that wasn’t prevent D
