I mean a real upgrade? I havent seen Jardin Gilbert play and usually highlight reels are somewhat misleading.

Anyone who has seen him play.

As a Safety with ball skills? Yes. But Ryan has really spent most of his career here playing Nickel and now outside CB.

Have you seen Ryan play? Do you think he’s been better at Safety, Nickel, or Boundary Corner?

considering Ryan’s play level varying from what I’d describe to be between bad and below average, lord I hope so.

Sage has been playing out of position due to arse DB depth. He became one of the only corners you could count on to play every game this year, and he shouldn’t be playing corner.

He’s not as bad as people try to make him seem. Duce and Denver should be the ones the fan base bashes, not Sage who puts his uniform on every game

The boy can’t tackle. If he works on that part of his game then he’d be a decent DB. He has all the skills but go watch him try to tackle anyone. He constantly puts his head down when he misses tackles or a play is made on him. He’s just not mentally tough and he can’t tackle a flea. Plays scared when I watch him. He can improve that part of his game but until I see it, I’ll continue to say he’s weak. I’ll give him some credit when he earns it. I can put on a darn jersey and run out there, anyone can do that. He needs to work on his aggression when tackling and stop bitching and moaning when things don’t go his way.

Quit the soft arse shite. Players deserve criticism and praise. Sage and major burns were huge liabilities

Hes been pretty bad no matter which position its been at. The tackling is team wide but he sucks just as bad as anyone else and he can't cover. He's just not natural at it. Maybe he should've tried offense like was suggested in hs. Hopefully he turns it around since the staff talked him off the ledge. They've been spending more time convincing average players hyped as stars to return than recruiting here lately. I suppose theres a method to that madness, hopefully beginning with House being shown the door.

I think he’s too small to play safety in the SEC and should embrace the cb role.

This place is full of people who only pay attention to highlight material and what other people say on here. If I guy covers well but makes a few mistakes, those look glaring. And Sage's tackling has been terrible. he still doesn't wrap up well on the initial hit and takes angles assuming he has superior speed, bad habit he developed when he could knock guys over in HS. Coaches need to work with him to correct that.

Sage is the second-highest-rated DB this season and the highest-rated CB. Same with coverage. Only Andre Sam as a Safety was better in both. His tackling was atrocious though.

Right so I guess we shouldn’t criticize anyone then? This is stupid. Just glorify anyone and anything huh.

He was by far our best cover guy yet he seems to get the most hate. I think it's because he came in as a 5 star and had the expectations. The terrible tackling dosent help.

I think the conv in this thread took the wrong turn... by bashing Ryan.
My intent was to find how good Gilbert is ?

As per 24x7 portal ranking Gilbert is ranked way below Ryan.

Every single time he misses a tackle or has a big pass caught on him. He shrugs his shoulders, shakes his head, puts his head down, throws his arms up etc. He does this all the time. You don’t see even decent corners giving off that type of negative body language. Offenses see that stuff and exploit it. He needs to get tougher man, period. This guy has been in our program for multiple years so I absolutely judge him much more harshly than I do the freshman. Even the freshman don’t complain every time they mess something up. He should be a leader on this defense and he’s not. He’s got all kinds of natural ability, so go to work Sage Ryan. Call some old LSU DBs and work with those guys. Toughen the hell up and tackle with some fight in you.

I dont think we've ever seen Ryan play safety. He's been shoehorned into playing other positions because those people suck.
