I know we all shite on meatball and coach O for not landing big time dline recruits. I heard from others that dlinemen recruits don’t like Aranda’s scheme because all they do is eat up blocks for the linebackers and dbs to make plays. Me personally I prefer the 4-3 defense. I miss when we had four linemen making plays on the line.

Lots of linemen do well in a 3 man front.

Bama runs a 3/4 as well. That is what lineman do in each scheme. Bama lineman are just. better than ours.

You are right I guess that is just the excuse to not want to play for LSU. I always hear about the linebackers and dbs talk about aranda’s scheme and how they love it but I never hear dline recruits say the same thing unless you are a keke Mingo/k’lavon Chaisson type.

So you wanna question the guy who is the highest paid assistant coach in the nation and was just named the top assistant in the SEC? Also, he’s probably responsible for the majority of the stud LB’s that have signed with us as well. Have anything bad you’d like to say about Raymond while you’re at it?

When he was hired other schools used his scheme for negative recruiting. So yeah.

there is no circumstance immune to negative recruiting. Saban would negative recruit himself if it helped him.

Dude saban could say the sky is greeen and the grass is blue these recruits and moms would nod and agree simply bc he’s won so damn much.

It’s a little sickening but at the same time LSU has to do something about this on the field for all to see. Not only once but consistently. Ole Miss has shown that it can be done with elite starters and good depth behind those starters. You have to be willing to take chances and beat bama in different ways not at their own game. We just aren’t ready to do that yet.

It would take another 3 or 4 years of the level of recruiting we’re displaying in 2020 to beat those guys at their own game. LSU has to play mistake free football while we make bama make those same mistakes we’re now steering clear of. They’ve stacked their roster up with elite talent at all levels and now can simply recruit who they want bc of the success that brings. It can be done and we’re on the right track.

Well Aranda's defense is more LB-centric but a good d lineman is going to be good no matter the scheme. It's possible for d linemen in a 3-4 to put up good stats. Those bama monsters put up crazy numbers every year. LSU just hasn't had those type of players in recent years.

You can argue 4-3 vs 3-4 but it's hard to argue with the results.

3-4 Dlinemen eat up blocks until those linebackers start killing the offense.

Then assignments change to account for all seven. When they respect the linebackers, then the dline starts to eat.

It all revolves around it’s success as a unit. Kind of like a balanced offense. The run opens of the pass and reciprocally, the pass opens up the run.

However, talent is still the largest part of the equation.

From 2016 - 2019, Bama has signed six 5* linemen. LSU signed one, back in 2016. Bama has signed two 3* linemen. LSU has signed seventeen. Bama has signed 28 4* linemen. LSU has signed 19.

The first two stats are the most glaring. Bama is stocking their offensive and defensive lines with premiere talent and LSU simply isn't. That is evident on the field.

I guess. So far for 2020, Bama has one 5* lineman, two 4* and two 3*. LSU has three 4* and four 3*.

ETA: now LSU only has two 4* linemen for 2020
