At best U-HIGH is number 5 in the city.

I've read the debate going back and forth on here about UHigh. Here is my PERSONAL experience with the school (my son attended and played sports there 3.5 years). And for the record I am NOT an Alumni. I graduated from Istrouma High School in 1986! A public school.
1) Yes, UHigh does look for up and coming talented athletes from the middle school ranks for sports. ALL SCHOOLS DO! I've personally seen and talked to high school coaches from EVERY high school in the Baton Rouge Area at youth football games! EVERY, and I do me EVERY school in the area contacted me in some manner about my son attending their school to play for them...both Private and Public! One public school coach suggested I rent an apartment in their attendance zone! It wasn't an option since I knew I was not sending my son there! So, UHigh is not alone in this practice!
2) UHigh does NOT allow early graduation. We too were faced with this dilemma! My son wanted to graduate at mid term his senior year to begin his college career. He had all the necessary credits required and more to graduate. We sat down and talked with the administration and were told it was not allowed. IMG came calling, and yes we did strongly consider sending him there for his senior year. But in the end we decided the experience he would miss as a normal high school senior (Prom, Dances, senior activities, etc) were more important in the grand scope of things. We didn't want him to feel like the universe revolved around his sport! So, he stayed and graduated with his class!
3) I don't know anything about scholarships at UHigh. I know I paid every single dollar that was required for my son to attend every year! No one offered, and I never received any kind of assistance or tuition discounts! I can't speak for anyone else, but I know I was never approached with an offer of any kind! I would not have accepted anyway! When you accept handouts like that it limits your voice and your right to speak up when you see shite is not right! And I've been known to raise hell when shite isn't right! But I do know for a FACT that Catholic High does it, Episcopal does it, and Parkview does it!
In summary, the kids and their family have to do what is best for them! I've known people that sent their kids to Catholic and loved it! I've known people that sent their kids to Catholic and regretted it as a horrible decision! That goes for Catholic, UHigh, Dunham, etc! I Had my issues with some of the practices and philosophies at UHigh during my son's time there, but in the end it was the best place for him! I wouldn't change anything about the experience it was for him and us!

who recruited, who was recruited and who was given discounts at PBS - name names.
Go ahead..

I could name names, but I won't. It would not be of benefit to anyone to do that. But, it does go on. You might not be aware of it personally, but that doesn't make it any less true! I'm not speculating or guessing!...I know of one family that a 'friend' of the program at PBS offered to pay their child's tuition to come there and play basketball a few years ago. Ultimately they declined and sent their child elsewhere. But yes it does happen...EVERYWHERE!!! And naming names is tasteless and tacky! It has no place on a fan based message/discussion board!

if you gonna accuse.. name names... unless you are referring to hoops - I have no interest or knowledge of anything hoops related...
it's tasteless to make accusations and not back it up. If I'm gonna say some one is recruiting I will out the guilty party right then and there - not necessarily the kid or his/her parents.

Thank you for the insight and welcome back. I had not seen you around these parts in a while. Glad to have legitimate input on a topic. How is Garrett progressing? Hoping to see him getting some PT this year, and be a starter this or next year. His time is hopefully right around the corner.

I said it happens at ALL schools, but you seem to want PBS to be above reproach! I mean. how DARE someone accuse PBS of an illegal underhanded practice! After all, they are superior and different than everyone else! Man, PLEASE!!!

You are making a clown of yourself. He said that someone with money offered to pay the tuition if a friend of his would send his son to Parkview to play basketball. That isn't that hard to comprehend.
I am an alumni of Catholic High and they openly have a work-for-tuition program to help recruit kids from families that cannot afford to pay.

Could it be said that Parkview and catholic are in a recruiting battle over a baseball player from River Ridge area?

Problem is, if this happened and a parent paid another students way that is not illegal or underhanded and has nothing to do with the school, in this case Parkview. I'm sure every school has had outsiders pay things for students. Nothing illegal about this in the least bit. If the school is a good choice for the family and someone chooses to help pay the cost out of their own pocket then good for everybody involved.

Nothing underhanded about another family paying for a student to go to a particular school specifically for athletic purposes?
The Kool-Aid is strong in the PBS community.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I think full athletic recruiting should be allowed.
Have a few powerhouse schools, a few magnet schools, votechs, boot camp.
Hijack over

That is correct. Even in today's world of leftist, progressive, communist throughout our great country, people are still allowed to make decisions for themselves and pay for things on behalf of others if they wish to do so.
There is no law or rule that takes that freedom away from anyone gracious enough to offer assistance to others. I'm quite positive that schools of all forms (public, private, lab, charter) take money from private individuals and apply it toward the cost of many things associated with these schools including athletics.
Enjoy your kool-aid.

The problem is we've gotten soooo far left that people honestly believe that wealthy people shouldn't be allowed to to give to poor people the money passes through the govts hands first and the they determine what is "fair"!
