Yes but Smith made it clearly known he was leaving the State to play for ALA. He was a Notre Dame legacy and the Irish didn’t even offer

All of the LA kids that go to Bama feel disrespected for some reason. Must be part of the Saban script like “it was a business decision” or “LSU just didn’t recruit me as hard”.

It has always been my understanding that LSU didn't give him a committable offer. They offered and signed Pettigrew who at the time was ranked higher than Smith. It' snot like LSU would know what to do with a pass catching TE anyway.

According to both Rivals and 247, LSU initially offered Smith as he had no interest and didn’t even visit LSU. Perhaps LSU rescinded Smith’s offer after the higher rated TE Pettigrew committed
