I'm pretty sure they were recruiting Devall to be a Mike in Chavis' system

Yep, and I heard LSU moved on with the commitment of Debo Jones. Might take an OLB, but we are done at MLB, and there just ain't a place for Devall.

I said in my post at the beginning LSU was recruiting him at DE, his natural position. They did switch to the Mike, but he his lateral speed is more suited for a 3-4 which is why his top 2 were both 3-4 defenses.

Indeed - even onto themselves.
LSU fans are excellent at internal "fighting" and calling each other down.
Seen more fights over stupid crap at Tiger Stadium than I ever wanted to see. Actually seen guys get into it with ladies.

why is everyone referring to Debo Jones as a MLB? I thought he was really fast and lean, similar to Tahj Jones?

tl.dr

making up threads about this will result in more hand wringing and gnashing of teeth. Just let it go.

It doesn't really bother me that we lost Devall since he never really gave us a chance. Literally skipped double digit invitations throughout the last year to come for recruiting events and games. It was obvious he had no interest in coming here. nothing you can really do about it, he wanted to go.

Our staff liked Devall as a DE. They recruited him at mike because he prefers to play LB. Instate kid so the staff chose to recruit him as a LB to try to get him on campus and then show him how good a DE he could be. It's recruiting 101. Kid wants to play LB and you want him,you have to recruit him at the position he prefers. Didn't help since he knew we wanted him as a DE. He basically said as much in his comments about the DE depth. Not a huge loss in terms of need but is a big miss in terms of talent and potential. He's a good prospect and we would have taken him.

I don't wish him luck. He went with Saban. He left the state. He no longer matters.

I might have been concerned but this is the deepest LB class in Louisiana in a long time and we couldn't get all of them.

This. Guys- this state produces sick talent, ever wonder why Leslie spends so little time in Alabama? We already have 6-7 LBs as it is. Did we want him? sure. I hope Devall does well for Alabama but truth of the matter is he is no great loss.

I agree..Devall is a good player. I just don't know why so many other people are making such a big deal bout this dude. In fact, I don't believe he is a fit with the type of LB's Chavis normally wants. Devall would probably have been more of a situational player at best.

As I had stated in a post about scout's La rankings on June 6 (and many other post) that of all the La highschool recruits that Devall was the one that I most expected to go out of state. As so did slit of other posters felt he would leave. He never showed much interest in LSU and always wanted to play in a 3-4. I definately want to make it clear that I AM upset that we lost out on him. He us talented and I deg would have liked to see him in purple and gold. That being said I was prepared for him to commit elsewhere and if there us one year we can afford to lose a "Lb" recruit this was the year. And I put LB in quotes because I would have expected him to get moved to DE in Chavis's system. Still wish he would have come here but oh well. We can finish off with Lorenzo and Perkins and this will be a stellar LB class. If we lose one of those Richie Brown is still out there.

Another JACK LB!!!

He will be lucky to see the field at LB at Alabama. He will play DL...

Nah he is too small to play DE in their system. He'll legitimately be a LB there whereas he most likely would have grown into a DE here. We won't find out where he would've been best suited until at least 2-3 years from now.

Richie Brown had 12 tackles in the MS.Al all star game last weekend. Looked real good against a talented Al offense.
