I don’t follow recruiting extensively. I just check this board to see new commits and then got to 24/7 to see the composite.

It seems like to me we are improving our recruiting from the Orgeron era and the classes are much more balanced.

Is that fair to say?

It’s just interesting that the “guy who can’t recruit the south” is recruiting better than the guy who made his entire career off recruiting. I’m not even saying this as a knock on Ed. Recruiting was the thing that you couldn’t criticize Ed on. I’m saying this as a compliment to Kelly.

I am not a recruiting guru either but it just seems like we are starting to get more of the high character guys that would normally leave us at the alter to go to Bama, OSU etc.

CBK is getting players who are more than just stars but also have a level head on their shoulders and seem to be more mature than others with similar rankings IMHO. He is also getting players who want to be here and that believes in our program.

If I am wrong someone please correct me.

Idk if I’d say we’re improving. We recruited at a very high level with O(Chase, Marshall, Sting, Ricks, Gilbert, etc…) but it seems like we are definitely recruiting OL better and aren’t passing up instate guys to sell out for a 5-star kid from out of state where we got burned a few times…

Yes because O's recruiting was vastly overrated. He got a lot of big names but due to how he handled many things, he left massive gaps in the personnel management which is the problem we have now on the roster. He'd pass guys up and whiff big time on OOS 5*. Remember he didn't even recruit Burns hard he went to Georgia before realizing that mistake to get him back here.

O could get the 5* but his problem was he was terrible at personnel management and evaluations. It was basically like throwing darts on a wall with him hoping to get lucky, which he did and also why 2 of our recruiting classes from his era are almost completely purged from the roster right now. That's why we have big holes. You'd be talented in areas but major holes in others with the exception being that 2019 team.

The ability to sign as many high schoolers and transfers without restrictions has really helped LSU. This cannot be overstated.

The thing most people couldn't wrap their head around when it came to our recruiting classes rankings and our roster talent under O is two fold.

1) Ed is a great recruiter but should never be in charge of managing the roster. Meaning he is great if someone tells him who to target but he was terrible at identifying holes in the team and recruiting those guys to lsu.

2) our classes all looked great under O but we lost so many of those guys due to things that Ed himself should have had under control such as academics and discipline.

It's one thing to go out and get a guy the boss tells you too. It's a completely different game to be the boss and identify the team issues, fix them, and keep the solutions on the team.

We only signed 13 in his first class. Add up the transfers and it arguably cancels out.

But this year you are definitely correct. We can sign as many as our 85 scholarship limit will allow and we’re already well below that.

It is a near miracle what our staff is doing.. Yes we will be top 5 minimum this year... But the ENDLESS work the entire staff is putting in 23,24,25 classes is actually better than Saban s staff. That is just factual....We have NIL money galore. But they won't overspend..I think Kelly thinks highly rated kids must pass the SOCIAL a d MENTAL aspects of players 1st and foremost.....

Ed started off strong, but then it all fell apart. He keep his recruiting rankings up by signing four star kids with questionable character that other programs stayed away from. A year or two later they would be gone.

Then, most recruits mothers were not greatly impressed seeing the guy who would become the number one influence in their sons lives taking pictures in bed with blonds.

Chicken should really just set up a board for Iota and Crown. Let them educate the masses. #IotaCrown2024
