If LSU wants more NCs, it has to land more top OL/DL players

If LSU ever wants to compete consistency for NCs, it has to start in the trenches. Alabama positioned itself for another NC run by signing 5 out of the top 37 OL and 4 out of the top 20 DL. LSU has 1 player in each of those rankings.

I understand recruiting rankings are overrated to some degree, but that's why you sign several of the top OL/DL so you can afford to miss on a couple. There's a good chance several of Alabama's players signed this year won't touch the field for a couple of years, but that's simply because Alabama has talented OL/DL stockpiled.

You can trace every Alabama NC under Saban to one thing - they dominate in the trenches. It's great to land talented skill players every year, but if LSU doesn't have the same level of talent on the OL/DL, they will never consistently compete for NCs.

It seems like we've been on the wrong end of the scoreboard against Alabama long enough that we would have readjusted our recruiting strategy, but that has yet to happen. I just don't understand what is so hard to understand.

That’s the emphasis. I don’t think it’s from lack of trying.

Defensive line recruiting has improved tremendously, especially with this class. Next years O-Line class very well could make or break Cregg

The DLine is pretty stacked. Guys like Roy, Smith, Ojulari all have 1st round talent. Jones, Jackson, Guillory, Langston, etc all have plenty of upside too as well as Gaye. Now OLine I agree but it’s not from lack of trying and I think the 2022 class will be OLine heavy.

Towards the end of Les’ tenure, LSU really went into a decline. Not very good OL or DL. It is just now being adressed the last couple of recruiting cycles. But yes, everybody is following Alabama. Orgeron may need to hire a better O line coach to upgrade.

OL and Db needs to be the emphasis imo for 2022. We are killing it in terms of DL and WRs, however as far as secondary goes not including safeties we've been struggling to land cornerbacks outside of 1 big target. It's like we get a Stingely and Ricks, and follow it up with 3 stars and transfers. Then this class of 2021 we lucked up and got McGee, but that's it.

LSU needs to do what it did this offseason and recruit it's draft eligible players to come back. That's just as big.

News flash: O and the coaching staff are very aware championships are won in the trenches. Every school in the country gets out recruited by Bama in that area. Having to go out of state for quality offensive linemen makes it that much harder to land them.

You don't even have to include Bama. UGA, Clemson, OsU and OU are out recruiting us on Oline.

If O was very aware he would've put all his eggs in on Leigh. It's embarassing we only get 1 4* a year.

A better Oline coach could help. Look at OU oline coach. LSU needs to find someone similar.

Out of the schools you mentioned, only Bama and Clemson have had a better run over the last three years than LSU. That’s including our shite year last year.

Actually the analytics show you just can't be bad on the o line. You need to be elite qb and wr and in coverage. It's the 2019 LSU vs Georgia examples. One had elite qb and wr the other had elite 1st rounder everywhere on the o line. No contest. Average o line team much better.

No doubt. This current class has a solid group at DL, but not at OL.

The 2022 class is off to a good start with OL, so maybe a year from now, the OP (along with most of us) will feel much better about this.

The skill was never the problem
It’s keeping up with bama in the trenches
That’s where bama is so much better

O was brought in to fix the DL recruiting issues

2016 was a big time class but 2017, 2018 and 2019 we’re weak as hell. The last 2 classes have been really good.

Well, we are already off to a great OL start for next year with Campbell, Bordelon and Taylor!

Would you clowns get off Creggs back for Christ sake! Cregg for the 5th time isn't responsible for recruiting every O lineman. Each assistant is assigned an area and Cregg has just one. On top of that Louisiana doesn't produce many O lineman. In spite of that we won a NC with our line coached by Cregg we got the Joe Moore award.
