How many is LSU signing this year? 25 current commits and ranked 14th

That's the lowest ranking in recruiting I've seen LSU since Miles first class which was small in numbers...
Are we expecting a big jump on signing day?
Are we getting run over because we lack NIL money?
Kirby looks like he's ready to be king of football...he might end up being the greatest when he's done...because he's got 2 Championships already and such a young age..I think he is 20 years younger than Saban

Everyone wants this to be some complicated issue. Look at our offensive recruiting. Do see problems with how it’s going? Now look at the defense.
Can you imagine any legitimate reasons why we might be having issues with recruiting on one side of the ball and not the other?
It’s REALLY simple- Fix the defensive staff and fix defensive recruiting.
As for NIL, we can’t be as monumentally behind as some of you seem to think. If we were, Fong and Michigan’s On3 guy wouldn’t be projecting us to land Underwood. Think about how much a #1 QB is reported to cost. If we weren’t competitive on pay, we wouldn’t even be in the running at this point. That doesn’t make us equal with the biggest players, but it seems we’re willing to pony up when it’s a priority.

It’s not looking hot on defense. We’re really going to struggle for a couple more years at least

Depending on what BK does to the defensive side of the ball in the offseason. Aren't you the guy who said Drelon was coming here 100%… Do you have any updates on that?

You miss the 15th ranked class in 2012, per On3?
Or the 15th ranked class in 2018, per 247?

Just saw 247, Shipp just put in a CB for DL Shone Washington. Physically he looks like a guy ready to play and contribute.

That's not all of the puzzle. Some people can see the forest through the trees, some people don't care about the money at all, some people only want to go to the highest bidder. I'm just guessing here, but I'm positive the Bryce would be going somewhere else if he only cared about who the highest bidder was. I'm sure he's got commitments on NIL from some people so he'll make his money, but I doubt LSU was high bidder.

I get all of that and I’m not claiming we are the high bidder. I would be shocked if we were. However, for a #1 QB, there is a minimum amount that you have to commit just to stake yourself in that game. That’s just how it works now. We’ve definitely committed more to him than most of the more negative posters on this board want to admit or believe.
I couldn’t tell you how a deal for Underwood is being put together, but I know this isn’t some “come here and we’ll help you brand yourself” arrangement.

If we hire a new DC...and players are excited about the hire
How many can we sign?
This class seems like it lacks "needs"

There is no signing “limit.” They are just limited in total scholarships (85). So, they have to be at or below that limit by a certain time

Yeah, one of the things most overlooked are the losses and misses from a class. What looks good about a class initially may change over time from transferring out, players not contributing, injuries and more.
I and others have gone back over previous classes and looked at some of these things. Some had half or more who never contributed.
I wish the recruiting services would go back every few years and regrade the top twenty or twenty five classes to see how much they changed.

must be a change due to the portal being unlimited
how many can we sign is the correct question then

Yes, the defensive side is sucking, but it's also a weak year in Louisiana. LSU has always been state-heavy.

the staff is paid almost 20 million a year...
I fail to understand the excuses...
you recruit state first, but you recruit the best players and you recruit to needs...
UGA and Alabama have big schools in their states to compete with for talent they still end up at the top

Completely irrelevant.

Facts are not excuses. And you are basing success and failure on recruiting rankings, under the assumption that each LSU recruit will perform based on his ranking.
There is no way to know that.
