Losing Bryce sucks nuff said but on paper this is the strongest defensive class we’ve had in years . 2 5 star corners who are day 1 starters type good in Pickett and Phillips and the no.1 cb in lousiana who will compete for snaps day 1 in the slot in Anding, multiple sideline to sideline freak athletes at lb in Ross, baker, and now weeks, loaded DL class with the opportunity to add Stewart, and two 4 star safeties in Thomas and Bradford. This class will definitely get this defense back to the elite levels we’re accustomed too as long as lock in Pickett.

I do believe Underwood has generational ability but I’d rather build with defense anyway. Defense keeps you at the top.

Agreed especially in the sec. If we wanna compete with Texas, Georgia and bama you need to have the jimmy and joes defensively

And if we get Solomon, maybe a few surprises, badass class.

We are most talent deficient on defense. Holding on to Pickett and bringing in the other two guys brings back those kind of corners we so desperately miss here. That’s a massive win no matter how you slice it. Losing BU sucks but if you can get LSU back to a high standard on defense you will be right there with anyone

Honestly even without Pickett, it’s still a class good enough to compete in every game in the SEC.

It's definitely not elite. If we can retain the dudes committed (though several are by all indications also gone already) this is still a decent class, but having a class of this caliber 4x is not anything more than a first round exit playoff team.

Also depends what we do in the portal. IMO, classes now have to be judged based on the totality of HS recruits, transfers in and transfers out.

Getting off the field on third down has been horrendous for years now. Offense has not been the issue. Lockdown corners and nasty d lineman will do that. Shootouts are fun but shutouts are better.

Underwood in all likelihood would have been a disaster here. In reality, in order to get him we would have had to pay what Michigan did. It would have created a horrible dynamic between the coaches and fans that are already volatile. Those expectations would have been almost impossible to manage and would have led to a completely toxic situation. He is by no means a guaranteed championship QB, but those would be the expectations of him and Kelly.

Not to mention, you pay someone like that, and the other people at work would be questioning their own checks. Michigan did no one any favors in how they handled his recruitment.

For next year, QB isn’t a huge need. Nuss will come back. He will be solid.

The year after that is questionable but I feel like Hurley will have a good grasp of things by then. (If we keep him from transferring)

Defensive backfield has been our biggest weakness all year and is what kept us from being able to stop teams in our 4 losses.

case and point: the last 3 national championship QBs were Mac Jones, Stetson Bennett (back2back), and JJ McCarthy. All of those guys were significantly elevated by the fact that they played on rosters full of 1st round picks. Obviously it would be nice to have another Joe Burrow or Jayden Daniels, but not necessary to win a championship. Just need a guy who won't get in the way.
