Talking to Texas fans when asked about a Colin Simmons update
quote:
Nothing new to report at the moment. Think Texas is still trending. Still a little iffy on his actual decision timeline.

I hope we can hit on some of these big DLineman. Looking a little thin for the class so far. Obviously Mckinley should be coming, but we shall see.

Would be nice to have some continuity at the D line coach

Jamar Cain is now with the Denver Bronco’s, he the Pass-Rush Specialist. That’s his title. You hire good coaches, there’s always a chance you are going to lose them. If you lose them to the NFL, you are doing something right.
Much of the same with players going into the NFL.

McKinley is no lock either. It’s gonna be a battle with Texas, and Texas A&M

I would hope that Lindsey works out. It's next year but let's see if he can get us in this race. He just released his top 7 yesterday.

We have 16, DT and DE’s on the roster as for now, only 1 is a Sr. 7 are Freshmen and 2 are Sophomores.

He’s a guy texas can’t afford to lose so it’s going to be very tough. Not that they need him but it’s the texas is back optics they need to repair. They’ll pay any amount to put him in burnt orange

They also were saying that he was about to pop to them after his visit but he didn't. What if he shows up for the Bayou Splash? Remember all that doom in gloom in June what if it dissipates right before LSU goes into camp with the momentum that leads into his visit for the Florida game.

Don’t count out A&M throwing stupid money at Simmons. He’s rumored to be visiting them for their big event coming up.

It seems like kids are going to LSU Friday then A&M Saturday or one or the other.

Those two go hand in hand, I should go more easy with this.

Just like LSU has an advantage in baseball recruiting in that they are willing to outspend 99% of the "market" for players, school like Texas and Texas A&M have the resources and the willingness to do so in football. That means any battle for top tier Texas HS prospects will be tough. LSU has to use its longer and much more significant history of success to sway Texas kids away from the big money Texas/A&M can and will throw their way.
The good news is that Louisiana will always produce 10-12 good/great players a year and, thus far, LSU has been very good in the transfer market.

Straight facts right there. He could certainly stay home at the end of the day but if you're LSU you want/need to be in these battles every year.
Absolutely BK has continued to fill the needs left behind by the previous staff. He wants to have the class mainly high school kids but let's see how much of an impact someone like Speights plays this year

306 days before we beat Alabama this past season. We had 39 scholarship players in a bowl game, with a WR playing QB.

It's like some people forget
. But nope he just wins the West in year one.

If we get McKinley & Simmons it changes the whole trajectory of this class, 12 4*s and those 2 5*s plus high 4* Mack, we are moving into Top 5, I just believe the 3rd DL coach in 2 years hurts in building a relationship for the 24s. No excuses for 25 class DL, DE however

Hopefully he waits till the season starts.
Might be easier to choose when it's week 4 and people are talking about Sark not even being in Austin next year.

It just feels like we are waiting on that one big "splash" commit to get recruiting revved up.
Offseason the appeal is more for the big payday for a lot of these kids. Once the season starts and the lights come on recruiting gets real. Maybe we even peel off some kids that are already committed elsewhere.
