LSU had 27 players transfer out in 2024 class and 9 incoming. IMO, here are the grades of those 9 players.

DT Suggs - A (several of us have said he should have played more)
DT Paez - A (outstanding also and played a ton obviously)
WR Daniels - B+ (consider him an A talent but his heel issue made him miss a lot of potential playing time)
WR/returner Thomas - B (never broke a return even though Anderson was able to have one on a KO)
S Gilbert - D (started but on a team with poor safety play and didn't distinguish himself)
P Ochsondorf - D (CUSA 1st team punter who never showed it at LSU)
Ausberry, Swann, J Brown - F (no one would have noticed if they weren't at LSU)

Coaches quotes and announcer quotes Daniels had a hell of a year and was a B+, production on the field with 40 catches but zero TD’s or big plays… C

Paez A
Suggs B-
Thomas B

The rest were D or F

You are I are pretty close on the grades except for Suggs and Daniels. Once again, I cut Daniels some slack due to his heel injury pretty much most of the season that Kelly hid until late in the season. I'm not a doctor but I'm assuming that slowed him down some. I was disappointed Thomas didn't break a KO return or a punt return. He was 1st team SEC returner of the 2023 season at Miss State.

Regarding Thomas’ special teams production..I believe this is more of an indictment of our poor special teams coaching

Suggs and Paez get an A??? An A grade should be for a full-time starter who is a major contributor and gets some All-SEC love (At least 3rd team), not a rotational player with a few snaps per game.

Suggs C-
Paez B

Obviously, punting and punt returns or lack thereof have been an issue. LSU had a punt blocked against S Carolina and every game but Nichols State, LSU lost the punting matchup by about 8 to 12 yards per punt. And LSU got squat out of punt returns. But the FG kick game was fine other than the 1 game that was a fiasco. And the kickoff game was good with a bunch of touchbacks. As I said, I saw Thomas fair catch balls he had room to run. Was he told to do so or did he misjudge the coverage? Maybe the ST coach told him to fair catch anything?

I agree Suggs should have played more. When he was in, he got in the backfield and disrupted. Why he didn’t play more, I have no idea.

Thomas was not used enough on offense and our terrible special teams play hurt his returns. BK needs a ST coach that knows what he’s doing. I have no idea why he refuses to hire one. Sloan gets a D for not bothering to figure out ways to get the ball to an explosive player.

Daniels was hurt most the season. Dude was still dependable and made several 3rd down catches for conversions. He just wasn’t used in the red zone. Our RZ offense sucked all year under Sloan.

After 2023, I was happy not having any muffed punts.

Suggs C- Paez B

First, Paez WAS a full time starter and major contributor. Suggs IMO should have played a lot more but for some reason didn't. But I could tell when #31 was in the game. LSU had a better push rush up the middle and he even batted down some passes at the LOS...BTW, LSU has always been one of the worst teams in college football in NOT doing that. SEC QBs seem to like the shallow drop which means their angle of pass delivery is subject to passes being knocked down. Suggs seemed to know that but some LSU rushers never put their hands up. Bizarre!

As far as All SEC goes, even 3rd team, there are 16 teams in the SEC now so you can be a darn good player and not get recognition. Hell, we think the world of Mason Taylor and he made 3rd team only. Also, I gave credit for DT supposedly being a "disaster" going into the season and DT was one of the strengths of the entire team...and Guillory provided little help since he got hurt very early in the season.

I wouldnt give 20 catches for 188 yards a "B" grade.

Yes, I know he gave us a little in Special Teams but it wasn't much. Im assuming Anderson and/or Brown will be guys returning kicks next season.

That clearly qualifies Paez as a A. Suggs also gets an A because he wasn't really expected to do much as a late transfer commit from a small school.

Obviously, agree about Suggs...agree about ST coach...agree about Sloan. As I've stated, one of Sloan's deficiencies and his predecessors at LSU has been the lack of a wildcat package. My God...J Johnson could be the BEST wildcat QB in college football (all time LA HS offensive leader) and apparently LSU refuses to utilize him (or someone else of their choosing). That is one reason LSU's RZ offense sucks as you said.

I think B is pretty spot on for Thomas. That was a combined grade as he was supposed to be a game changer on the return game. That is exactly how Kelly described him after his signing. On the + side, he fumbled 0 punts. 20 WRer catches is not much for sure but he was always IMO option #5. Lacy, Daniels, Anderson, and M Taylor were always going to be above him on the totem pole...maybe even Durham in receptions on short passes. But yeah, certainly doesn't deserve anything higher than a B.

Did you watch our punt return game in 22 and 23? Not having to check my pulse every time we received a punt was a relief. He was brought here to right the ship in that dept. Any offensive production was lagniappe in my book.

They need to get Suggs back. I don't know why he left. That is the biggest mystery leaving on the team. Getting pressure up the middle is much different than pressure off the edges.
