Why do we specifically “have” to take a QB in this class?

You can downplay that we have Brennan, Narcisse and McMillan plus our eye on 2019 QB’s. I am not convinced taking a QB is a critical need.

If the recruit is good enough to improve the Tigers then it is critical.

Ideally, you need one qb in every class.

Narcisse is coming off two knee surgeries and reportedly was not accurate at practice. He has zero game experience. McMillan has been here a while and not shown yet he can be an SEC qb.

That leaves Brennan, so you are an ankle sprain away from a real problem.

If Brennan wins the job in the Spring as expected, there is no guarantee Narcisse or McMillen wont transfer.

LSU knows they need a qb, they have tried desperately to get one.

They must think its a need. I sure do.

Look y'all, this is not like previous years where if we signed 23 one year we could add 2 to the next class. This is the new system and it's a hard 25. There's no playing around with numbers like before. Like it or not, this is the new recruiting system in place along with the Early Signing Day.

Good to know that our new Offense is similar to the one being run by Foster's high school. How much are we paying our OC again? For a high school offense?

With LSU's luck with QBs you have to prepare for the worst case scenario. That would be Narcisse or Brennan transferring out after the spring. It probably won't happen but you never know. Adding a QB is a must.

I know you are trying to be funny. However, check out Hugh freeze and Gus Malzahn then you have Sterling Gilbert.

Looks pretty ignorant when you start hearing those names.

It's been a rollercoaster with this kid for sure.

How does he fit in with the QB depth right now?

Just depends on how ready he is to play early. Otherwise another development.

What I like:

He's tall, already physically mature, over 200 pounds.

He's experienced - pretty much been leading the team since a freshman.

As a senior he passed ~3.5x his rushing attempts - so dual threat, but pass first.

He's accurate - again, as a senior, he was about 66%.

He doesn't throw interceptions - 247 has 30 TD passes to 3 INTs.

Not exactly true.

They are using last years class as the starting point for the new 'system of counting'. And that class has 25.

However, this class or any other class IF below 25 the previous year early enrolees CAN count back. So you have to have both-
1. room in previous year
2. EE's this year to count back to last year

Well Brennan threw 0 Ints in the regular season of his senior year to 48 TD passes and had a 69% completion rate after throwing the ball over 350 times.. but he did only have 9 rushing TDs... the point is that don’t mean a thing until they do it in TS!!

They feel that Goodrich is a way better prospect at DB than Foster is at QB.

Doesn’t matter. It is way, way, way, way, way, more important for the success of our team to finally get a QB then get another first round DB/safety. If you can only take one, you take Foster. We can’t win until we fix the QB spot. DBs are great, but Jamal Adams and Tre White playing together couldn’t get us a a sniff of the playoffs. Foster may not be Cam Newton, but he’s as good a QB prospect as we’re likely to get any time soon. I love Brennan/Narcisse, but they are no sure things. You don’t pass on signing a QB with potential.

I agree with us needing a qb, but I would not take him over surtain chase or Goodrich. We have our qb battle next season. We can go after an elite guy next year

What makes you say Foster is not elite? He’s a 4 star whose other offers are from Saban and Jimbo. How likely are we to sign someone significantly more “elite” than that next year? You guys need to stop chasing the players with the highest rankings, that’s what got us into trouble. We need to address needs. No bigger need than a great QB, and it’ll be a lot easier for us to find more “elite” DBs next year.

After seeing some inaccuracy during one of the all star practices I went back and watched his HUDL highlights. I didn't see his SR season so I watched his JR video. Some images I saw previously looked at gave the impression that he winds up when he throws but the video actually shows pretty good mechanics. His release is quick and he has a good base. He throws a nice deep ball and has good velocity. Some HS QBs have bad mechanics, but Foster looks pretty solid. At least that's my non-expert opinion.

I don't put a lot of credence to Speigs, but he said this in an article referencing the Joseph's return visit and the final spots:

quote:

A new-look final 4

There’s a possibility Joseph could shut things down after making his official visit to LSU this weekend, but even if he elects to go to Alabama and Auburn, he’s considered a solid bet to fall into the Tigers’ class.

With Joseph on board, that puts LSU at 21 signees and one key commitment. That’s one of the final four spots remaining in the 2018 class.

Who will join him in rounding out the haul?
•Patrick Surtain Jr., 5-star CB (Plantation, Fla.). Confidence level: 97.5 percent
•Ja’Marr Chase, 4-star WR (New Orleans). Confidence level: 85 percent
•James Foster, 4-star QB (Montgomery, Ala.). Confidence level: 60 percent

LINK

Interesting he put a projection on Foster, but left off Goodrich.
