Davonn Godchaux apparently wants to enroll in the spring, could this be why the late offer?

The staff wanted to make sure he fit in with their spring plans regarding recruits?

Gerald Willis apparently wants to be a DE, doesn't this basically establish that he wants to play in a 3-4 scheme?

Michael Brockers was adamant he was going to remain a D-End in college. So did Ego Ferguson. A number of 2014 LSU targets that are currently listed as D-Ends would almost certainly get moved inside if they sign with LSU. Chavis/Haley do not seem overly interested in putting "jumbo" D-Ends on the field.

Yes you are correct Willis wants to stay at Def end he's 6'4" 265 lbs all muscle no fat, but his frame can put on more weight, so its completely left up to his body to project where he will play in college. On Davon he doesn't mind moving inside to play the 3 technique or stay at Def end, but they both are must haves for this class, don't let our best Def Lineman In our state get away to one of our SEC opponents, and become All American's, stay here and rep the boot.

504, thank you for the info....as always. How are you feeling about the Karr kids (Noil, Willis, and Jones) with LSU these days?

Are you one of those Assistant to the Assistant Assistant, Assistant Assistant Assistant Assistant Personnel Director's from Alabama? Nice job throwing their selling point out there.

Well, it does seem pretty clear that Willis would either have to have his body restructure itself to be smaller or would play DT for us.

Aren't DE's in a 3-4 more like DT's in a 4-3?

Not necessarily. If they're just rushing 4 and the OLB is coming from the opposite end, then Willis would esstentially come a DE and not a spacing eating DT. It's all depends on the schematics.

Chavis never said that big DE's do not fit his scheme. In fact, he says he likes to have bigger players but he would not sacrifice speed and athleticism just to get a bigger guy in the rotation. If Willis can play like a typical LSU DE then he will probably stay at DE. If not, then he will have to move inside. Same with Godchaux.

Right, but the DT's in LSU's scheme aren't just space eaters either.

Yes. Upshaw was an OLB at Bama at 270, but never stood up.

My personal opinion is that Speedy,Gerald will be Tigers because they want to attend the same college. Jones on the other hand im not feeling good about because I think he will be to much of a project to develop, I think LSU might go after a out of state kid to fill that void but hopefully im wrong. Because personally I like the kid.

Let me first say that I absolutely love last years class, think it will prove to be one of the best yet. With that said, there was very little excitement at the end because everyone was in so early-for the most part. However, it appears this year will be quite different in how we arrive at what will certainly be another GREAT class!! Alot more suspense this time. Funny I complained about last years lack of excitement, but this year I am ready for everyone to commit- grass is always greener I guess.

Willis can play DE, but he has to be aware that he's always a couple of Big Macs away from being a DT.

It's not so much that he's too big and not athletic enough now, but his body type is more DT and he'll have to fight what I think is natural about it.

This is true. 4-3 linemen are usually one-gap players, meaning they need to have the footwork to get up field and make plays in the backfield. 3-4 linemen are generally two-gap players who will play their men head up. 3-4 ends and 4-3 tackles aren't necessarily comparable.

Worst thing that ever happened to Dorsey in the NFL is they tried to make him a 3-4 end.

504Soul, thank you for the honest assessment. We don't want to hear of a coveted recruit going elsewhere, but it's a reality. Jones seems extremely interested in Texas from what I've read.
Thank you again for the great Willis and Speedy info.

What the frick? Not at all.

He's 6'3" 247 lbs why would this mean he wants to play in a 3-4?
