Most of the top players we thought were “can’t miss” never played, sucked, or transferred. The transfer portal will take 40% of your recruiting class over time anyways. Take the best kids you can get and address “misses” in the portal. This roster cannot be patched with 18 year olds anyways develop the kids that you get and the portal is you bread winner.

It is difficult for me to get interested in recruiting. I used to keep a page running on this site that kept up with all additions in recruiting/portal. I have time to keep up with it, but I just don’t have the desire to anymore.

Don’t get me wrong though. Obviously we want guys like Gerald’s and Brown. But I don’t check back in every two minutes with the refresh button like I used to years ago.

I agree because of NIL it has become free agency and it becomes hard to get attached to the players because of the portal. After Elias Ricks went to bama I had not been excited about a HS kid until we landed Kiffin. It’s really only because of the program excitement, but I’ve quickly been reminded how this really works now. Miss the old NSD when your team was built upon recruiting HS talent. Sad truth is the best way to build a roster is you get a couple elite prospects in hs and roster fillers. The portal really is the main catalyst now especially with how many kids you bring in being uncapped now. (WV has 40 commits)

Casual bullshite. Lack of player development, specifically on offense, has been the issue. But by all means, please name off all of the starters and critical reserves that LSU wanted to or tried to keep who have left over the last 3 years. That has NOT been a major issue here, so recruiting is not some afterthought.

Recruiting retention is allowing the kids who don’t pan out, are projects who decide to not stay, or who aren’t high priority to leave, paying the ones you need to keep, and keeping that cycle going through consistently strong recruiting. This is the way to build a foundation for winning while blowing less of the rev share money to do it.

This is MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER now that rev share is starting. Some of you can’t fricking understand basic math. The recruiting player pool is a much bigger market and outside of the very top players, is much CHEAPER than the portal because of it. The more limited pot of money with Rev share starting makes it even more important to build a foundation with recruiting and internal development.

If you do this right, then you can do what Ohio St did last year- spend big on a few high impact players in the portal who can put you over the top. If you try to build a roster in the more limited player pool of the portal now, you will get far less return on the money spent. The top players in the portal’s values are driven up by scarcity. It’s just basic economics.

I can't stand all these idiots on the board blaming Kiffin for "losing all this talent" on day 2 of the early signing period...

People tend to forget players like Justin Jefferson was a 2 Star recruit and Mansoor Delane was a 3 star recruit...the stars of the team.

It’s obvious player development has been an issue. recruiting will always be the lifeblood. It’s also true that Lane has had 3 days to approach the early signing day. It’s pretty obvious next seasons HS class will be better and pivotal. This season you have no choice than to prioritize the portal. It’s not casual BS recruiting is important but no 18 year old is more important than a coach and the rest of the team.

Yeah development is a whole other conversation that needs to be discussed. Losing Moffit was a huge blow to our physical development of players imo
