I was pretty surprised to see Gibson so high. He's definately not a bad player but that's much higher than most services have him. ESPN and Scout don't like him nearly as much. Regardless I think he's very talented and a good pickup.

None of them are perfect but they provide different points of view on a kid. Having him as the 5th best player in the state seems a bit high to me. At the same time it doesn't really matter. His ranking won't have any impact on his success. He's talented.
Odd that you sing Rivals praises when the board is always calling them biased, etc. Maybe you Corndogs need to pick which recruiting site you like, because when ESPN is promoting your prospects ya'll sing their praises.

Before some of you get on to Bama fans for knocking this kid's ranking consider this:
Ronnie Vinson and Tharold Simon are rated 4 star "athlete" prospects.
Is Sam Gibson on the same level as those two?
Ronnie Vinson could be a stud RB or an All-SEC DB. Simon could be a stud DB or WR.
Now. What position could Gibson be a stud at? No one knows. The only thing for certain is that he is an average at best QB.
"Athletes" are rated high when its obvious they could play a multitude of postions and be successful at any of them, like a Vinson or Simon.
Obviously Gibson must have some athletecism, and that got the attention of LSU coaches - which is really all that matters - so, big ups to him for that. But, rival fans, especially Bama and Auburn have the right to question his ranking at this time. LSU fans would be all over this if Gibson committed to Bama and jumped to the same ranking as Simon and Vinson.

So lets run down the thread.
LSU fans are beside themselves they "stole" one from Bama. LSU fans are saying we have out heads in the sand and just don't want to admit a player that wasn't even the best on his own team isn't the 5th best in the state. 95% of you have never seen this kid play football. LSU fan can't believe they got a player from the state of Alabama.

I weighed in on this yesterday and the day before, so I'm not going to go into it again today. But this might be the most hypocritical statement i've seen since, well, yesterday....

How does Gibson measure up (size/speed wise) to the QB from Leesville (Ford's teammate) that went to Auburn? I just think bama fans feel the same about this guy that I felt when I heard that guy signed with auburn.

It is hypocritical, but also true. When Rivals rpoclaims your recruitng class #1, you print t-shirts. Whne they move Gibson up the rankings, He Easily, should be ranked behind 5-10 othwr players who have Bama offers.
Both fan bases have acknowledged "homers". There or some LSU fans who have come on here and agreed that they feel the ranking for Gibson could be unwarranted at this time.
This is simply RIVALS opinion, It should be based on review of plenty film, performance at camps, etc. If not, thie Rivals opinion is no better than yours and mine, for any of the pospects.

exactly, both fanbases have hypocritical fans. I was just pointing out an obvious case of it.
I have no idea whether Gibson is better than Perry (the guy that starts at safety for Prattville) or not. Maybe they don't want Gibson playing both ways since he is more valuable at QB.

Did you actually read the thread? I must call your reading comprehension skills into question if so.
Let me summarize in bullet points for you:
-General consensus is that LSU got a player who possesses enough athleticism to play several positions. LSU fans pleasantly surprised at Gibson's stock having risen to this point but still reticent to proclaim that we stole him from anyone and looking forward to seeing him prove that he should have gotten offers from the almighty Tide and AU.
-Bama fans incessant bitching that he is now rated as a top 5 player in Alabama.
-LSU fans having a good laugh at Bama fans incessant bitching that he is now rated as a top 5 player in Alabama.
-JPH77 comes along to gloat about how well Alabama is recruiting (a completely unrelated and unsolicited opinion).
-LSU fans not at all surprised that we got one from Alabama, considering we have an established tradition of signing a couple players from that state who have produced (see #1 NFL draft pick, 2007)
-LSU recruiting extremely well on a national scale while still locking down Louisiana. Bama winning the recruiting battle in Alabama and very well regionally, but not having near the national pull that LSU has had this year.

Just because you don't know if Sam is on the same level as Ronnie and Tharold does not mean the coaches don't know what level he is on or what position they want him to play. They obviously have a plan for him since they offered him and he is a commit for our class.
As far as him not being a better prospect than his teammate who is ranked #10 in the state rankings and the starting safety on his team...that is pure jealousy by the gumps. Sam has been to many camps this summer and been evaluated several times with rave reviews. I watched the Spanish Fort camp and he looked more fluid in the DB drills with better hip turn than his teammate (current bama safety commit). Also, he ran a better 40 time at 4.4 than his teammate. They were evaluated head up at the Rivals Spanish Fort camp and Gibson looked better and posted better resutls. That is why he is rated higher on Rivals than his teammate.

If you don't think Gibson is a player, then you DO have your heads in the sand. What exactly are his weaknesses? We enjoy laughing at all the stupid people in Alabama who think that every player that doesn't go to Bama sucks.

Yeah it's a total head scratcher. We've had a really tough time getting players out of Alabama in recent year, like Sidell Corley and Phelon Jones (Gatorade player of the year in Alabama--no room on our depth chart for him). Meanwhile you guys have been "raiding" Louisiana of players we haven't offered. Congratulations.
