I went to high school in Shreveport at Capt. Shreve (grad 1970) I knew all three and I have to respond to the comments about Robert.
He lived not far from my house and we became friends through The Fellowship of Christian Atheletes. He would come to my house and shoot hoops and tease me about going to the "RICH PEOPLES SCHOOL." His mother then became friends with my own mother. It became a close frienship between all parties.
Robert was not a (dumb/stupid) kid like you portray him here. He had opportunities to go to other schools other than Centenary in Shreveport. The major factor in his decision was two-fold.
1) His mother wanted him close because of family reasons that I will not go into.
2) His high school sweetheart that he had been going with since 8th grade became pregnate and he didn't want to leave her.
Robert, at the time I knew him, was a truely great kid and I still think back at the times we spent together with great fondness.
Those of you who have your opinions without knowing the facts or the man....should be ASHAMED!

Guaranteed you know my dad and uncles. And yes, Robert was a good guy by all accounts I've heard.

Here's a little tidbit of info that may interest a few. Robert's sister, Liz, went to school with me at Huntington in the mid 80s. She was about 6'2"....and did NOT play basketball. She was smart and a very nice girl. Just thought I'd share.

BTW, Joe Ferguson never seriously considered LSU b/c Mac promised Prather (and A.L. Williams, his coach) to go to a passing offense if he came to LSU. Mac didn't and when Joe Ferguson came along he was reminded (over and over) of that recruitment by LSU.
Governor McKeithan himself got in on Joe Ferguson's recruitment on LSU's behalf.
Didn't work, obviously. But Plan B didn't work out so badly for LSU...a certain Rifle from Ruston. Bert Jones was a damn fine consolation prize for losing Ferguson.

Did they play football or baseball?

I know he has kidded about that, but it isn't true.
I don't think it is true either. LSU had pretty much an open admissions policy back then if you got out of an accredited Louisiana HS you were in.

per Dandy Don:
Henry Lee "Trey" Prather
Private First Class
E CO, 2ND BN, 5TH MARINES, 1ST MARDIV
United States Marine Corps
23 January 1947 - 10 January 1968
Shreveport, Louisiana
Panel 34E Line 024
and a bit more...
quote:
Trey Prather (QB) 1966 Shreveport. Trey played quarterback one year at LSU and was called to fight in the Vietnam war. Trey Prather is the only former LSU player to die in the Vietnam war, according to what I have been been told.

Yep. Bradshaw just keeps yukking it up for some reason. I don't know why he wants to play dumb.

Trivia question: The year Arkansas signed Joe Ferguson, they also signed three other Woodlawn players. Can you name them?
Posted on 2/1/12 at 10:54 pm to ULL Cool J
Mark Hollingsworth, Jim Hodge and Acie Griffith?
Posted on 2/2/12 at 2:11 pm to jeffsdad
Correct!
I think Hodge (flanker) was the only one that had a decent career up there. Hollingsworth was a wide receiver and Griffin a fullback. Remember Joe Thrash? What a great name for a football player.

Yep, I graduated with Joe. He was unbelievable. Huge for the day. And very fast. Never understood why he wasnt interested in college football, but he had offers from everywhere. He died a few years back. You could actually hear his feet stomping the ground when he was catching up with you, kinda scarey. Hodge and Hollingsworth had some great hands. I remember at WHS practice during Joe's senior year, Bradshaw would visit and we'd catch passes from Joe, Terry and Johnny. It'd be a bruise if you didnt catch it with your hands.

There was Bradshaw, Ferguson and Prather.
But Johnny Booty was the best athlete of the bunch.

Yep, he was, and the extremely fast.
And to add to the qb roster from WHS, lets not forget Billy Laird, the qb before Prather, who went on to star at La Tech.

Generally true. I tutored Slim at Centenary. He got a scholarship to every school in America. He was the No. 1 recruit and it was not close.
His problem was not grade point as much as ACT conversion score. Which was later changed so he would be eligible by today's standards.
The NCAA offered him the opportunity to transfer with no sanctions. Bobby Knight made a huge push for him to go to Indiana. He would have been on the undefeated NC team. He declined. He did have an illigit child from HS that he continued to support. The baby momma was a moron. We had the same dentist.
That Centenary team was actually very good before Parish but it lacked a center. He made it a great team. It became crap when the lesbians took over the PE dept and demanded equal funding of women's sports. It's all crap now.

Yeah, that's why Johnny Booty played in the NFL. Oh, wait.
