When you walk in the front door of the Gym its a Shrine to 3 of the greatest HS Athletes of all time in Louisiana and 1 is in the NFL Hall and the other is in the NBA Hall not sure about the Hog.

Bradshaw
Parish
Ferguson

None went to LSU. But the Best died in Viet Nam Trey Frazer I believe was his name and he was coming to LSU before he died.

herad him tell the story he was going to LSU because of pressure but wanted to come to Tech. LSU was the only school with entrance exam at the time so he faild it on purpose so he could go to Tech.

Right out of his mouth.

I think he has some serious incentive to avoid publicizing the fact that he wasn't smart enough to get into LSU. I'd take that version of the story with a grain of salt.

As I recall, Bradshaw said during his coverage of Sugar Bowl when LSU beat ND, that he loved LSU, was set to go, but "I've always had a problem with written tests." Didn't sound at all like he preferred LaTech, but it was a good backup. Would have been great for him to have been at LSU.

BTW, Joe Ferguson never seriously considered LSU b/c Mac promised Prather (and A.L. Williams, his coach) to go to a passing offense if he came to LSU. Mac didn't and when Joe Ferguson came along he was reminded (over and over) of that recruitment by LSU.

In spite of numerous very good old school WHS college players, only two of them went to LSU.

I know he has kidded about that, but it isn't true.

Robert Parrish had a 1.6 gpa in high school... he was willing to go anywhere that would bend (or make new) rules to allow him in

Centenary fudged the rules come on.

How do you know the GPA of someone who is 55 years old.

Woodlawn bent that for it to be that high.

Didn't Broyles kind of fug over Ferguson at Arky kind of the same way? Didn't they go back to the option or something. I remember my dad talking about it. He was playing around the same time.

Broyles treated Ferguson terrible. I remember his senior year at Ark, there was a tv special about the upcoming year's Heisman hopefuls. They gave about 2-3 mins of each but then the last 10 minutes was "the favorite - Joe Ferguson - Ark". Joe ended up not even starting at Ark the last half season.

Joe proved them wrong by playing great in the freezer called Buffalo, New York.

Prather actually did come to LSU and played for a couple of years before dropping out and winding up in Nam.

I wasn't there so I'm not sure, but I don't think the did "dropping out and winding up in Nam." I think he was in good standing and left to join the Marine Corp.

Jeff'sDad, It was unfortunate but Joe Ferguson had some personal issues with a few team mates and was benched in favor of Scott Bull. The OL would not block for him, it was a real can of worms that we can not go into here.

Also, Arkansas did not have enough talent around Joe for him to excel, he was one of the best QBs in Louisiana History. I played against him in H.S. there. He is still the most impressive H.S. Q.B. that I have ever seen passing the ball. He was really accurate and had poise beyond his years. He is a very fine man today, living a good life in NW Arkansas. He has survived cancer twice in recent years.
