Actually we signed 3 players with LSU offers last year in Richie Brown, Quay Evans, and Nick James all of whom LSU fans felt was theirs to lose.

So none of these guys' offers from LSU were legit? I know for a FACT Richie Brown's was.
Tons of LSU posters wanted these guys last summer and fall, many of whom told me I was crazy for saying State led for those 3.

Irrelevant

There is a lot of pro MSU buzz with Herron. I think he knows he is our #1 d-line prospect and he is just another number with LSU
Not trying to be critical, and you're a good poster with a true passion for MSU, but...I see statements like this sometimes (from lots of people from different schools), and it always seems like odd reasoning. Telling a kid he's your number defensive lineman, that he's the man, has never made sense. It's like saying, "the rest of the guys aren't any good, so you'll have to be the top dog."
If there's any position where I'd want to play with the best players in the nation, it's on the defensive line. Without those great players around you, your butt is gonna be double- and triple-teamed. Defensive linemen should want to play with the best defensive line class in the country, not one where they're telling you you're the man.
Not meaning to be critical of you, but if I were a star defensive lineman, LSU would look awfully good because of the stars you'll be playing with.

I'll be honest, I wanted Brown, but that was at a time way back when I thought Lorenzo Phillips was a gone pecan, and had no idea Kwon Alexander was a possibility for us at that point.

MSU did indeed beat us for Prescott. We tried to flip him.
Richie Brown had a legit offer in the summer but as the fall went on, many on here tried to tell the LSU people that were clamoring for him, that Chavis wasn't high on him. Phillips wasn't the deathnail for Brown, Deion Jones was. Phillips was LSU's a week before he decommitted from UF. Alexander was a take regardless of who was in the class. Chavis loves him.
James had an offer early and was a lean to LSU(not an analyst out there would deny it) but he was no considered a good qualifying candidate and the off field stuff closed that book.
Evans was MSU bound from an early point in he year. Bama was the competition. Most LSU people doubt he even had an offer from LSU when it mattered. Not because of his talent but some battles are better not fought.
I was extremely confident on Herron until I read a few sites today. He seems MSU bound. I'm not going to say itt's because we turned him away because I don't know that to be true. Some may and are sharing that. I've had questions as to whether he was a take the whole time. I want him but never was confident he was a take with Prevot and Williams on the board. Personally if we either don't take him or he just chooses MSU, I think it's a loss for us. People say it points to us looking good for higher guys on the board and that may be true but that's a dicey game to play. Recruiting can change in an instant. The guys we look good for now may be off the board later. Who else is high enough on the board to pass on Herron?
Prevot-I personally think we're 2nd at the moment behind TAM.
Williams-some are scared of Bama, some of Miami, I'm scared of no one. I'll be suprised if he's not at LSU next year
Neal-Would we take him over Herron? I wouldn't
Bower-Is he worth the risk of passing on Herron? Not to me.
Beckwith-Have we convinced him to play DE?
Vanderdooes-Is he a DE for us? Doubtful
Stacey Thomas-Not worth passing on Herron
Who else is there? Are we ina Prevot/Williams or bust mode?
Just my thoughts. Feel free to bash, complain or anything else.

Richie Brown never had a legit offer, we told you that was for Lorenzo Phillips
Posted on 5/30/12 at 7:55 pm to Al Bundy Bulldog
Richie was a far back back-up option. No one ever thought LSU led for Quay and Nick James is a headcase and most coaches took notice of that and backed off.
You went 0 for 3 there but there's always next time

yeah that's right, I don't know how I thought he was a lefty

I don't mind missing out on herron and not because he is no good.
we have to make cuts somewhere and this one is ok by me.

I like Herron, hope we get him but if not losing him to state won't be a big deal. D-line class will be great this year.
Posted on 5/30/12 at 8:18 pm to lsufanva
I've also heard of Tyquan Lewis at DE. To be honest, I think Herron is a better prospect than Tyquan Lewis or Lewis Neal.

We all just saw this with Patrick Miller in February.

Slow played. Tried to committ and was told to hold off. Prevot, Williams and Nikemdiche ahead of him. I think he's going to state on Friday but not to upset bc I think we have a couple of the aboved mentioned in the bag.
Posted on 5/30/12 at 10:53 pm to GeaauuxxFan
I always forget about Lewis. He likes us a lot. I'd still rather have Herron.
I get that Williams, Prevot and Nkemdiche are higher on the board and I would definitely agree with that but what happens if we miss on 2 or god forbid all 3? Scraps and whoever we can steal? If we take Neal later in June does that mean that he was higher than Herron on the board and that whoever put those 3 out as the reason for not taking Herron was full of shite? Dicey game but we'll see what happens. I don't even count Nkemdiche. I hope he just commits this summer and puts all this dreamchasing to bed. My luck he'll commit to us 1st and then leave us hanging come Feb to prolong the agony of having to watch our staff and a portion of the fanbase fawn over him.

quote:I'm not a regular on the recruiting board or anything, so I'm wondering if there's been some specific news I've missed that makes everyone so certain that Mingo and Montgomery are both leaving early after this season? I mean, they were both draft eligible this year (just like Brockers), and Montgomery was a projected as a 1st rounder, but neither of them jumped this year. Why are we so convinced they will next year?
DE depth after this year is atrocious with only 4 guys returning

No point in staying, highly doubt they will improve their stock if they stayed another year
