His height and mobility are big pluses. His arm strength is the better of the two and taking snaps from under center isn't something new for him. However, you can definitely tell he's a pitcher by his throwing motion so that could use some work.
I think that Franks and Patterson are both great QBs. I don't think we can really say one is better than the other at this point. But what I do know is that Franks is a very intelligent QB. He reads the situation very well, knows how to move in the pocket, and knows where to look for help. I believe that he has all the mental tools and experience to do very well in a pro style offense like LSUs. But yes, his throwing motion and ball are pretty ugly. That's not as big of an issue when you look at the fact that he really fits our offense well.

I'd take 10 qb's if possible. Let them compete. Only makes each other better. May the best and most deserving win the job. Can't wait for Feleipe.

People are just scared of dual threat guys. It's gonna be great to see Franks as a tiger though

I clicked on the link to watch the video and was pretty surprised. I expected to see some sort of awkward throwing motion from the comments, but there was nothing at all wrong with it. He drops the ball down a little low at times, but that can be corrected. Other than that, he looked awfully good.
When I think of bad mechanics and poor throwing motion, I think of Colin Kaepernick and Tim Tebow. Franks looks awfully good. I'd love to have him AND Patterson.

Franks is a great get for LSU, and he is ALL LSU! I have watched him destroy our local HS here in the Florida panhandle twice. Also is a great kicker, regularly putting kickoffs out of the endzone and drilling field goals!

I hate seeing this. Shea is as dynamic as it comes and is the definition of a dual threat. So you telling me that people are scared of Shea? Dual threat means you can run and pass, it does not mean melanin production.
Shea is a beast, Franks is a beast. I want both but I am truly giddy that we have FF already.

Honestly I think Franks is who we should spend most time on keeping. It'd be different if Shea was so much diff from FF & better suited for Cam but he's not. Just negative recruit Shea against west rivals but let FF know he's our guy.

LOL exactly. People say they hate dual threats, are afraid of dual threats, yet many are dying to get Braxton Miller here. Patterson, on interview, considered himself to be a dual threat. I'd say he is at least as mobile as Jennings.
Hell Winston was labeled as a dual threat out of high school (top 20 overall recruit) and he barely runs in Fisher's system. I like pass first dual threats and Harris, McMillian, Franks, and Patterson fit that description. Cole Kelley runs some read option at 6'7 and he can move. Lindsey Scott looks like a Russell Wilson type QB. While Dwayne Haskins doesn't run much at all, he is similar to Teddy Bridgewater, as he is an accurate pocket passer who is pretty mobile.

the thing is that they are 2016 recruits while Torrance Gibson is a 2015. Perhaps that's why. We need a big time QB commit in THIS class. Do like McMilan also though, but if the past has taught us anything, it's that you can't have to many QB recruits. It's a position of need every year because you never know how they are going to turn out.

Patterson is a good QB. But he is not a dual threat. In fact he was listed by all recruiting services as a pocket passer, until AFTER the LSU camp in July 2014. He was ranked in the top 10 in pocket passers nationally. After a decent 40yd time at LSU camp in July, he was magically re-classed as a dual threat (with in a week). It was a smart move, because they ranked him higher on the dual threat side. The common thought is that PPs are more cerebral than DTs (not that I agree with this). So when he moved over to the DT side it gave him a boost in the rankings.
DONT CONFUSE the term "dual threat" with the term "mobility". Just because a guy moves better than most PPs, doesnt make him a DT. Look at SP's film. It is clear that he is a PP with good mobility. But he is by no means a dual threat. AGAIN, he is a good QB.

Franks is my guy. If we could only have one, he's the one I want. He's committed. He's a fricking Tiger and it didn't take his brother being on staff to get him. He isn't looking at Ole Miss. If Patterson wants to go to Transfer U, then it's okay with me. Just give me another quality QB (for competition and depth purposes) to go along with Franks and I'm happy. Haskins, maybe, Cole Kelley. Whatever, I'm not sold on the whole "if we don't get Shea, we're doomed" train.
