Does anyone here think Texas might be interested in Sumlin?

Sumlin has coached at OU and A&M, i don't think he'd be interested in Texas.

i don't know how anyone could think any living coach would not be at least interested in coaching at texas is either very young or has no idea of the history and prestige of the ut austin job. one of the best in the land, hands down.

im just saying what ive heard. many other LSU fans on here agree with me and think they are going to A&M.

they love the system at A&M and coach Sumlin and why havent they said shite about LSU in the past couple of months?

i just think yall are scared and know deep down that this wont end well. They are going to be in College Station next fall boys. i dont like it anymore than you do

I really love this cynical, expect the worst and you won't be disappointed mentality. Some has the view EVERY.SINGLE.YEAR. Only the names of the recruits and the schools change. What's even better is you can just accuse any LSU fans that counter your cynicism as being delusional and burying their heads in the sand. You disregard any LSU "insiders" but oddly take what the A&M insiders say as chapter and verse, completely ignoring the fact that 2 A&M insiders predicted Noil to LSU THIS WEEK

Noil said last spring he wouldn't take any visits over the summer and proceeded to visit LSU multiple times while backing out of multiple scheduled trips to A&M. He came up one weekend to hang out and watched the NBA playoffs with current LSU players and coaches. The typical response to this has been that its close for him to come up to BR and hang out with his uncle. Kind of odd for a kid to be so close to his uncle that he'd come hang out with him, but won't go to the school his uncle is the recruiting coordinator for. He'll come hang out because it's close, but he'll go to school 450 miles away where it will be harder for his family to come to the games and him to go home . It would make at least a little sense if LSU's offense was performing like it had the past few years.

I will never understand why so many LSU fans want to be so negative about the program. Yes, we will lose some big time in state recruits. But always wind up signing the majority. But still some fans want to dismiss LSU people saying these guys will sign with LSU but accept A&M people saying they will sign with A&M. Even if you do believe that, why you want to argue the point so much with LSU fans is equally mystifying. Would you rather be right so bad?

Half of them are afraid of the 90's happening again. They think a collapse is always around the corner, so they can't afford to be positive just in case we do fall again. The other half are trolls.

I fully understand the history and prestige of the job and am old to enough to have seen Earl Campbell play there. That doesn't mean every coach in the country would quit their current job and leave for Texas. Some would, others won't. It also doesn't mean Texas would be interested in Sumlin as their 1 and only choice. He's a very promising looking coach, but he's not the only 1. It's extremely rare for coaches to leave 1 big college program for another. The last 1 I can think of is Franchionne leaving Alabama for A&M and that was special circumstances and i can't think of a single circumstance of a head coach leaving for a rival big time program in the same state. If Texas could just hire who they wanted, why did they hire Mack Brown? He was a good hire but certainly not the best coach in CFB back then.

ETA: I forgot about Beliema leaving Wisconsin for Arkansas. I would count that as leaving 1 big program for another. He left for money, not just his salary, but the money UW was willing to put into the program. A&M would match any amount Texas would offer. They only job Sumlin leaves for is the NFL.

Texas has the same chance of getting Sumlin that they have of getting Saban... 0.

Chris Petersen, Charlie Strong, Art Briles and David Shaw would be on the short list. But it looks like they're going to be competing with USCw in the coaching market.

On Saban, would you be willing to put a friendly wager on that 0% chance? We're about to go to a playoff system which will change the dynamics of winning a championship. Which is more attractive?

Coaching at a program where you have to run the gauntlet of a nine game SEC schedule, THEN win the SEC title against another top 10 opponent? Where you are virtually guaranteed to lose at least one game a year? Where you are in a state that has decent talent but you HAVE to be able to cherry pick from other states like GA, LA and FL?

Or would you rather a new challenge at a school in a better town, with the same level of tradition in a state with enough talent to field 3 top 25 teams? How about being a virtual lock to make the top 4 every year by playing in a conference that carries enough prestige to warrant an automatic bid to its champion, but offers far less competition during the season.

Not mentioning money because he could name his price at either school; it won't be about the money. Saban's smart enough to know that things are about to get tougher at Bama and he would kill at Texas, plus his ego is too big for him to pass up the opportunity to put his stamp on three of the greatest programs in college football.

On Sumlin, who knows. He would definitely listen and Texas would love to stick it to A&M while strengthening their own program, but Sumlin at Texas just doesn't feel like a good fit.

Yes you got me, I'm a huge Aggie fan

I have the unpleasant position of being friends with some Aggies so I have to hear this shite

My good buddy is a partner at a big law firm and he's a big Aggie donor. His other partner is on the board at A&M so I hear plenty of close door conversations

Abso-frickin-lutely. You're reading ENTIRELY too much into it..

Also, with Saban's healthy disdain for the media, why the frick would he go to Texas where he has to deal with the LHN 24/7. It's frickin' not happening. I have a better chance of coaching at Texas than Saban.

I'm kind of scared to ask, but are you suggesting that Tuscaloosa is a better place to live then Austin?

If so

You say that, but everyone I know from Texas barely consider Austin a "Texas" city. Austin is a good time, but full of "liberals and hipsters". I'd go for the google fiber though.

I think Speedy (and even Willis) are 50/50 A&M/LSU right now. I also think the A&M/LSU game will have a big impact.

And Austin is a paradise for trendy hipsters. Very overrated place.

There has just been more chatter on some of the pay sights that he is taking a harder look at atm than first thought. I realize a lot of people who know more than I say different but I have seen this chatter before. It does not mean it’s a given but I don’t think people should consider this a done deal.
Flame away I have just seen this dance before……

Without commenting on where Noil and Willis end up...

I have no confidence in the pay sites with high-level recruits anymore, especially if it's inter-conference rivals competing almost exclusively for them.

They "skew" their predictions to maintain both access to the recruits and keep the fires burning on their pay boards.

Landon Collins and CRob are prime examples. Both were Bama all the way; Collins kept it under wraps better however. But there were a few inside the recruiting site world who were trying to speak out that the pay sites were misleading their subscribers intentionally for business reasons. Some of them were punished for that, especially in the case of Landon Collins.

I'm not saying all the people doing the covering are bad, I'm saying the managers/owners are letting $ come before actual, factual, and accurate information dissemination.
