Fournette to A&M. Grayshirt. Spots are tight! :nana:
That's fine. That said, Sumlin hasn't done either of those things. Clearly USC is a top coaching gig, but coaching at A&M, the only SEC school in Texas and has deep pockets, isn't the "stepping stone" program most here think it is.
I think it's interesting that so many see this as a foregone conclusion that Sumlin is leaving despite him getting commitments from the type of players that wouldn't even give us visits the past ten years. He must be telling these kids something to overcome these rumors which are getting hammered into the recruits minds right now. Guess we'll see, but I think he stays if it's between us and USC. If it's a solid NFL gig, I'm not nearly as confident.

Out of curiosity, are folks so sure that Sumlin would leave because of the incredibly low opinion you have regarding A&M as a program or the incredibly high opinion you have of USC as a program? Do y'all think Miles would leave at the drop of a hat to go to USC?
I understand most here see A&M as the La-Monroe of Texas football at best, but Sumlin will likely get another raise, he's getting a 100K+ stadium built plus other new facilities, recruiting extrememly well, plays in the SEC, etc. I don't get why people seem to think this is such a slam dunk with the current situation USC is in. I think we lose Sumlin eventually, but it will be to an NFL team.

So at this point would y'all take Young and Garrett if both wanted in?
mmonro, my whole point was that we have had great success with LA guys even though they didn't have LSU offers. Also, not that it really matters, but how has UT "had way more success" in LA than A&M in recent years? They have signed about one guy from LA in the past 5 years.

I didn't mean we had a high hit rate in regards to head-to-head recruiting battles for La kids. I'm pretty sure the answer to your question is zero. I meant that the guys we have gotten, whether LSU didn't like them or didn't push for them because of numbers, have been very good for us. Patrick Lewis C, Jonathan Stewart LB, Deshazor Everett DB, Floyd Raven DB, Julien Obioha DE for example, and the guys from last year's recruiting class, Washington, Claiborne and Ellis, have all done very well as freshman. That's why I always like to take a few La kids in each class.
The A&M mods seem to all think that pulling Speedy and Willis to A&M is going to be nearly impossible. However, posters on the boards, similar to the posters on this board, continue to post that they hear from those "close to the situation" that A&M has a really good shot. I don't feel good about getting any Louisiana guys to A&M this year, which is very disappointing, our hit rate with these guys the past 5 years has been really good. Maybe Kenny Young? Must be something in the water, Lousiana guys can play.
Interesting, thanks. I figured y'all would close up shop after Garrett. A&M sites indicated that we were in the mix. Seemed a little suspect though because I don't think he's even visited.
Kenny Young?

I have a few questions regarding Young. I know he released a top 6 or whatever last week, but I figured someone around here would be in the know about who the real players are for him.
Is this a can't-miss type of LB? If Garrett jumps on board, are y'all done at LB? Who are the biggest threats to LSU for his services?
Sorry if it's been discussed recently.

re: Leonard Fournette visiting for the Alabama Texas A&M game, possibly good news?

Despite what many here think, Sumlin isn't a total idiot. If the coaches thought it was bad they wouldn't be going out of their way to tell Noil he's coming.
Maybe, just maybe, we like where we stand with Noil, and want him to work on LF. I know, I know that's just absurd.

Oh, Ok.
Well, for the record, since Sumlin has arrived (and the SEC), we have been far from HORRIBLE in recruiting top flight defensive talent from Texas.

I don't know what to think about Mack. Mack is pretty similar to the Noil situation really, only flipped. Mack says LSU is a favorite, A&M folks say he's all A&M and LSU is not a factor; Noil says A&M is a favorite, LSU folks say he's all LSU and A&M is not a factor. Kind of funny.

I think Speedy (and even Willis) are 50/50 A&M/LSU right now. I also think the A&M/LSU game will have a big impact.
And Austin is a paradise for trendy hipsters. Very overrated place.

Noil, Willis and Young?

Have a few question for you guys. I know they have been discussed a lot but I thought I'd try to consolidate this is into one thread.
Who do y'all feel better about, Noil or Willis? Are these guys thought to be a package deal at all?
What's the word on Kenny Young? Seems to be pretty high on our list. Been a while, but last I read on here, other than LSU, Young really liked UCLA (I think), is that still the case?
Any situation that could unfold where y'all wouldn't take any of these guys due to numbers? I know Noil and Willis appear to be takes all the way, not to sure about Young.
Thanks for the info.

They rank them early after watching them play their entire junior season, then they penalize the kids in the rankings who don't have the means to go to all the camps over the summer. So basically a kid who crushes it on the field in actual games falls behind kids who show up at these camps and run a fast 40 or jump really high. I guess it makes it more interesting though.

That's what I meant. When are they expected to clear her?

I think Tony Brown if his sister makes it official to LSU.
Has there been anything new regarding that situation?

"LSU has a much better Track Team"
Don't often get into talking Tract & Field smack, but that is a false statement.

The vast majority of Texas fans are arrogant, condescending pole smokers. If you somehow find yourself in a reasonable discussion with a Texas fan regarding football, recruiting, schemes, coaching, etc., brace yourself because once you make a valid point, the conversation is about to take a turn to lame college town smack, grades/education, or Young/McCoy.
I think he's likely LSU bound. I also think that we have an outside shot at him. Tiger in the end though looks like, his sister going to LSU I think sealed the deal.
