LINK???

I don't know about Kentucky but Oregon needs some D lineman and he can play quicker than most guys can coming in at different positions.

We recruited him to play offense. He doesn't have the speed for D line

Well boo freaking hoo.
Welcome to adulthood.
So you have to defer your FREE COLLEGE RIDE for 6 months.
I worked on a freaking tug boat to finance LSU and it took 5 1/2 years you whiny little shite.
Pull up your Spongebob size 56 underwear and sit in the Big Boy chair, Porter.
Man the hell up !
Or gtfo!
Some adult in this kid's life needs to tell him about the REAL adversity, the death, the sickness, the loss, the nut-crunching, soul-stealing reality that happens in the real world.
To ALL of us.
Put his arse in a dress and send him to College Station because if he goes all moist the first time he has to defer a little gratification, he's a FLOP waiting to happen.
There, I said it !
Damn !

my point was based on timing. He's missing practice time.

He signed a contract agreeing that he would receive a full ride. I know you say that it is possibly only 1 semseter but its still not what was originally agreed upon. I think it is a dick move to pull this right before the season started.

Its almost like your boss giving you less money than your salary that was negotiated.

Again Boo, freaking hoo, cry me a river and get me a flavored binky.

It doesn't take an Auburn grad to know that RARELY, because of the pitiful state of public education in Louisiana, does a team offer twenty five and get back 25 qualified kids. It's more like 30/25. This year, Auburn's Daddy, Les Miles, offers 27, and ...gasp...all 27 actually qualified!

So we start with the premise that A) the situation sucks and B) It was a honest mistake.
From there we do what ADULTS do, which is to evaluate our NEW reality and make decisions based on that reality.
The LOGICAL move is to ask the player to take a six month greyshirt vacation (omg!!!!!!!) just like at least TWO starters from last years team did when they were Freshman.
Oh the horror (omg!!!!) of being asked to take one for the team.
By the way, one player did just that. Like a MAN.Not like a BOY.

Happens EVERY day. It happened to me. Sometimes you don't get what was promised to you. Sometimes you get cancer. Sometimes your Mom dies in the prime of her life. Sometimes you get laid off and lose your house.Sometimes for no reason whatsoever, the Universe is seemingly conspiring to tell you how small and insignificant you are.

As a parent, I use these ocassions to TEACH my kids about FORTITUDE. Sadly Porter's parents are teaching him about VICTIMHOOD.
My old man would have patiently listened to me whine about the unfairness of it all, and then slapped me in the face with a little reality; given me a rally speech about WINNING and VICTORY and PERSERVERENCE and STRENGTH, I would have RISEN TO THE CHALLENGE, waited Six freaking months, and LIVED THE DREAM.

Porter's FAILURE is the one we should be worried about.
The Universe does not bend for you Elliot.
You are getting bad advice.
Nobody cares about your sense of entitlement.
Nobody cares that your Christmas present under the tree was an empty box.
That's life in the Big City, sweetheart.
Take some Midol, stfu, and run some wind sprints you little crybaby.
Deal with your disapointment, accept the challenge confronting you or run screaming like a little punk-arse-bitch.

It's a shitty situation to be in. Hopefully this was planned on by Miles and co. and has been discussed behind closed doors. And hopefully this was done months ago when they knew something like this would happen. And hoefully we just haven't heard the full story.

My gut tells me that if he sticks with LSU, Miles attempted to do right by this kid a while ago and things are mended. But hell, it's CFB and we'll probably never know.

Best of luck to Porter, whatever his decision may be.

But it's about perspective and maturity.
This is what we call a TEACHING MOMENT.
The kid needs to learn that this stuff happens in life ALL THE TIME.
Respect ? Are you kidding me ?
Ego ? Seriously ?
Somebody told a fib? Please !
Dealing with adversity is THE hallmark of a winner.
A responsible parent teaches his kid PERSERVERANCE in the face of adversity.
Flee now, flee forever.
I hate to see any kid take the easy way out.
I've seen it a million times.
Quit now, quitter forever.
Character is destiny.
There needs to be an adult in this kid's ear.
Somebody needs to show him the list of the thousands of "contenders" now serving up burgers at the drive-thru.

Yes, it is a teaching situation. But it still sucks. I'm not going to throw out insinuations because I don't know what went on. No one does.

But you've got to be unbiased in this case. You would be upset if you're child or you were wronged or felt like you were wronged. And that's natural. Learning to deal with the cards dealt is one thing, but trying to solve a problem is another.

I would be looking at my options if I were Porter too.

my options

Here's an option.
Chill your ego.
Spend six months getting physically and mentally tougher.
Enroll in LSU in January.
Spend four/five years getting a degree, making life-long bonds and playing ball at your State school.
Live your dream.

Dude, you've got to look for your best interests. It has nothing to do with ego. Yes, I would think about the team too. But life isn't that simple. And if you think differently, you're in denial. Just because a kid takes a look around, for instance UK, let him. It's his choice, his life, and his potential profession he's looking at.

It would be similar if you were admitted to Vandy on an academic scholarship. You showed up and they asked you to wait a semester to enroll. WOuld you just say "ok" and go sit on your thumb? No. You'd take a look around at all of the alternatives and choose the best overall choice.

Don't get down on a kid for simply thinking about a VERY IMPORTANT decision in his life/career.

It's not so much the kid.
I don't blame him for being a stupid 18 year old, after all I too was once the same. and then some.
It's the parents.
When this kid washes out of Texas Directional Teacher's College make sure to start a thread.
When the other kid, Cameron Fordham plays ball and gets his degree, I'll start a thread.

Eliot Porter needs to look out for Elliot Porter, because no one eelse will. That is the life lesson in the teachable moment.

He is under no OBLIGATION to wait for LSU. He should evaluate all options and take the best available to him, at this time.

You state the obvious Sid, as if this is a court of law.
Nobody is contesting his right to do whatever he wants.
I'm contesting the wisdom of FLEEING the fight when you get your first uppercut after the bell rings in the first round.
Fight, son.
Don't cower and don't flee.
Don't seek the smaller stage.
UK football ?
You are better than that, son.
Hang in there, be tough and Prove the bastards wrong!
RISE to the ocassion.

I understand your point and I hope he does this. However, takin gthe oportunity to re-evaluate is not necessarily a sign of weakness. Reportedly, he has the oportunity to enroll at LSU in the Fall. Shopping around and entertaining offers in the meantime is not necessarily throwing in the towel.

Considering Oregon and UK do not seem to indicate he is running from competition to me.

All I'm saying is I understand him looking elsewhere.

Exactly. Put your homerism aside, Pimp. The kid isn't running from anything.

It's also come out that he was one of the three freshmen that failed his conditioning test.

I must have missed this ... was it reported or is this just rumor?
