Ed Orgeron tells UT enrollees not to go to class

LINK Can he doe this? this has got to be some kind of an infraction. If not, look for some rules to be rewritten regarding a-hole coaches who leave a program and then try to take players already on campus. It's either okay to do or not. What a mess.

Former Tennessee recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron has contacted multiple UT mid-term enrollees and encouraged them not to attend class today so that they can easily leave UT and enroll at Southern California, multiple sources told the News Sentinel.

They had the nerve to call me and ask me to come to Southern Cal," Willis said. "And coach Ed Orgeron (who will follow Kiffin back to Los Angeles) said that he was going to be my coach at Tennessee."

He is a POS hired gun that will go to any length for a kid.Where is the surprise?

At some point Orgeron's antics have to back fire with some high school coaches. Some kids and their parents are really pissed this morning.

I'd think if LOIs are signed there then it should be an NCAA violation
also once you jump jobs don't you have to take another NCAA compliance test before you can recruit again?

But is Orgeron under contract with USC yet??? This will be interesting to see how it plays out. God, it could take the NCAA 5 years to rule on this one.

LOI wouldn't be signed until feb whether they were enrolled or not no?
And I think kiffin had to take it b/c he came from the NFL.

No they sign it the day they enroll early
Bottom line is if you attend class you will have to transfer.

they can't, unless they're backsigning to last year's class

He is a classic POS. I hope these high school kids are paying close attention to their antics

Regardless of whether they sign a LOI or not, they are committed once they attend class. The only way out for them at that point would be to transfer and sit out a year. The only thing I would have a problem with is actively encouraging an athlete to USC. I don't have a problem with advising them they shouldn't go to class if they have any doubts. This is the right thing to do regardless of O's motivation. Yes, the athlete should chose where to go on the basis of the school alone, but that is a naive ideal. Coaches matter and these athletes should have an opportunity to reflect on that. Those that want to go to TN regardless will end up there.

They can switch to USC if they havent attended a class yet.

they have to transfer once they go to class, the LOI is really irrelevant at this point

I think the NCAA will let a athlete transfer in special situations. I think this is one of them. Parents who are very upset with the situation and their kids have just started classes will be able to transfer but not to the school the previous coach left for. I think that happen a couple of years ago, but I can't remember what school it was.

that has never happened...thats a big issue in college sports now...if a coach that recruited a high school kid ups and leaves should the kid be able to leave without having to sit out a year?
