Can’t wait to see Arik play. May be my favorite freshman coming in.

LSU Coach Ed Orgeron Envisions Tigers Using Freshman Tight End Arik Gilbert Like Calvin Johnson

quote:

Linehan was the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions for perhaps the best five year stretch of Johnson's NFL career and Orgeron believes Gilbert can make a similar impact at the college level for LSU next season.

quote:

"The guy you've gotta look at is Arik Gilbert, I'm considering Arik Gilbert as a wide receiver," Orgeron said Tuesday morning. "I can't wait for him to come back. Obviously we can use him at tight end but we can split him out at "X" and we can get some mismatches with this kid, especially in the redzone. He's going to be a nice target there for Myles Brennan.

quote:

Orgeron said that there is one particular running back that has won over a lot of the players and coaching staff on the team, mostly because of his willingness to wait for his opportunity.

quote:

"Each one of them brings a different skillset and the guy that's won everybody's heart is Chris Curry," Orgeron said. "I mean this guy stayed and that's exactly what you need to do at LSU, Derrius Guice did. Curry waited for his opportunity and now he's one of our top backs. Chris, Tyrion and John are three great young backs and I'm excited about them."

This is awesome. Probably belongs on the Rant though. Deserves more attention.

The only potential setback is the virus and cohesion with so many new offensive players. May take 3-4 games to get cooking.

McMath/Palmer/Boutte
Gilbert
Curry/Emery/TDP

As long as Myles can make reasonably quick decisions, should be pretty easy to rack up yards and points.

I’ve been trying to explain to ya’ll that he is more of a WR than a TE. Hopefully he is willing to learn how to block and becomes more versatile rather than just being content on being an outside WR.

What makes you think that? Lol

It does actually mention his name in the quote, so yea it’s definitely Curry. The carries will go to whom ever is most successful and protects the ball.

I would like to see them all run with more patience and vision once in the second level. Setting guys up for a spin or some type of move to break free into the open field.

Silver lining:
The defense we go up against have the same lack of cohesion.

True, but every other team in the country is dealing with it too. I’m glad it’s not just an LSU issue. It’ll be an even playing field

Don’t sleep on TE Kole Taylor. Graduated HS in fall, was said to look excellent in Tiger practices. Heard he had great hands and very good on running routes. Gilbert could play the X with Taylor the true TE .
