Early Signing Day thoughts

Would you change anything if you could? How well did it work? Was it what NCAA intended? One thing I was not aware of was the hard 25 cap. If the thought was to get kids to focus on schoolwork, yes it worked. Most P5 schools can no longer take a chance on possible qualifiers. But I think it forced some Hard decisions on some kids and coaches. The timing was also awkward. In Texas, high school playoffs still going on so it was hard to make visits. Be interesting to see if anything changes before next year.

I like it. Every year we have like 20 hard commits so why not let them sign. Plus, I like giving the low 4 and high 3 stars some power. They will sign with you or someone else if not giving a scholly so it actually protects them.

could it help sign some quality grey shirts later on? Tell them no scholarships available now but come spring semester when a spot opens up, it's yours...

It kind of forces kids to get their grades in order quicker, ensuring they are student athletes, not the other way around.

My only complaint is it kind of kills the show of the signing period

I view it like the other poster. It gives some power to the mid rated guys. They will either have a signaable offer or not.

No games were played by the kids that were signed...... the kids that played games ended up at MSST, Kansas, or JUCO...... we got some mature kids that truely wanted to be TIGERS. I like it

What do you mean that was one of the main problems with what signing day had become, you had low rated 4 star and even 3 star prospects dragging out life changing decisions because the show was so grand.
This was a win-win for both schools and recruits IMO.

What r u talking about

At first I thought it hurt the kids by forcing them to make a big decision coming fresh off their senior year, then I thought about what was previously mentioned where it helps academically eligible 3 star type kids by taking some power away from the coaches dragging them on. I think I like the end result

I like it so far because it seems to take away a lot of the drama that has been over the top for awhile now. the hats on the table bull shite. the kid signs and then is such a star he often doesn't even make it in college.
I think it will also add some sanity in the "second half" of recruiting. most schools seemed to have signed close to 20 guys so they all can concentrate of signing just 5.

I agree with all of that. It also cut down on some of the shite posting on this board too.

This just isn't true. There is nothing that says you can't wait. Now committed kids are pressured to sign and you can't blame the schools for that, if you are committed and don't want to sign then your not committed and the school can move along and not get drug along.

I'm sick of the mega attention whoring. I know these kids get "their day in the sun/15 mins", but for the super recruits, it's been that way for 2+ years. The purposeful trolling and signing day flippage gets annoying. That crap that Erik Fowler pulled a couple years ago and the Janzen Jackson fiasco have worn thin. Leaving teams high and dry and not being able to fill numbers, while costing some other recruits to get their offers pulled at the last minute.

Thank god for that, the shite show signing day has become was out of hand.

Sportswriter for the Dayton Daily News said that coaches like Saban and Meyer will have a harder time "poaching" players committed to other programs with the early signing period. Ergo - they probably won't like it.

I like it. I wish the timing of the signing period could be different but August is too early IMO. It takes some of the drama of the Feb show away but as a fan of LSU more than the spectacle I like having most of the class signed and sealed without threat of losing them. Coaches just have to manage it a little more precisely and leave spots for kids left.

I like it. It allows the foundational guys (3-star and some 4-star guy) to get on board, then the coaches have six weeks to focus on the cream of the crop.
That's how it worked for everyone except UGA at least. Maybe we need to get the Chargers in the driveway sooner.
