Do coaches take age of a recruit into account?

If there are two prospects with equal talent, will the kid that is still 17 his senior year have more value than a kid that turns 19 his senior year? Sometimes there's a huge change in a kid in that time frame. I never hear this discussed when people are evaluating prospects.

If their talent level's the same; they're valued the same. That specific age range in college has nothing to do with anything. College is just 3-4 years.

Give me the 19 year old... The extra maturity might help off the field

I'd be willing to bet money the 19 year old is more mature physically too.

In football? No. In baseball, 100%. The 19 year old can leave once he turns 20.

You have to make sure that the kid is not dominating in H.S. just because he is older and more mature than everyone else. He may have reached his peak. I have had coaches tell me this is a factor.

The 19 year old may have more difficulty learning the playbook.

Well yeah, that my point.
He might have already peaked athletically where as the 17 yr old could get MUCH better as a college freshman going from 17 to 18 compared to 19-20.

John Curtis & West Monroe have been 2 of the more fruitful programs for lsu. shite I think Whitworth turned 20 as a freshman

is it because their players are better? Or are they perceived better than they are bc they win?
