He wasn't being recruited as a safety. So I'll ask again, if he came here as a corner, who would he play over?

He wouldn’t play over Ricks, Stingley, or Flott in nickel, and would have to beat out Raydar and Ward for the dime spot. I doubt he would do that.

This seems to be spot on. There was a comment on here yesterday that the staff thought he would be buried on the depth chart for several years. Because of this, we decided to swing for the fences with guys that would contribute sooner. We obviously swung and missed, but it was a risk/reward the staff was willing to take.

I don't disagree with their thinking if they believed he wasn't going to have an instant impact. Sucks for the kid, but they may have done him a favor at the end of the day.

I get the feeling Burns was a backup and/or low-ish on our board all along. If there was 'love' for LSU it was un-requited.

And we decided it just wasn't worth the spot.

I’m close with his HS coach. We told him he wouldn’t get a LOI in December and we did it a week out from ESD. Kid is a stud, we will end up regretting this one. He just made 17, he’s a baby. He will definitely grow into that 6’2” 176lb frame! And he’s a thumper. Would’ve been an ideal safety in a couple years

Good to get clarification, it just seems odd that we would still be targeting a CB.

I agree, I’m scratching my on it as well on the LSU end. And Landry wasn’t even upset about it really, he said LSU is in a position to pick and choose at this point and he thinks we’re going after 5 stars...FWIW, in the hour he was with me recording the podcast he had A&M, Oklahoma, and Texas all call him and he said he had spoken to Bama that morning...

This was arrogance plain and simple. As soon as a kid and his parent feels like he's just another body and not someone the program wants to invest in they'll definitely look elsewhere.

UGA did the same thing (only worse) with Tank Bigsby. Difference is Tank ended up a 5* ranked higher than the other guy that was already signed.

Glad this one ended in our favor, but sux that you guys got bit.

I bet we never hear Major Burn's name again. He wasn't that special imo

This is my feeling, but people are too invested in being upset right now.

Nah. It’s just reality now that there’s and early period.
Programs are going to ask guys lower on the board to wait until 2nd signing day to see if they have spots left. Some of them will bolt. That’s the deal.

It is highly unlikely this kid beats out any of our young corners for PT for two years and LSU will be recruiting big time CBs in the next class to come in behind Stingley and co. Burns was a luxury for depth and he didn’t want to wait. So be it. That isn’t arrogance. It’s just the priorities of the board.

This was a mistake to not allow this kid to sign. It's easy to say in retrospect of the number of kids that flipped. Regardless, it was a mistake.

surely looks to be that the movement was to find another true cover CB...Burns was more S-that can fit into certain D packages and of course a big thumper. But can he stay on an island with man2man skills..just not sure burns was that guy.
with Stevens, Vincent back, Hampton has looked good {assuming bb does not take him away}
Harris will be back from an injury-so that is an unknown and upperclassmen Lewis & Monroe were playing behind a 1rst rounder...S postion should be fine, but it does suck to see La. guys go elsewhere..

I am confident the LSU staff know alot more about these players and if they will fit than some of you "coaches" here.

I think by what's usually understood by "process", yes, he was processed.

Recruiting is such a tricky business and O is no novice at it.

Time will tell who messed up, we or Burns.

Burns would've been on the bench for four years. Not sure why anyone was upset about losing him.

Let’s say the coaches had a safet big board that looks like this

1. Toles
2. Greene
3. Burns

And they want 2 Safeties.

They got All three at one point.

So they told Burns to look elsewhere. Which at the time Makes sense. Then Greene flips.

You can’t now say we just didn’t want Burns.

We wanted Burns we just didn’t think we had space for him.

It was a miscalculation. But this “I trust the coaches opinion” Is ignorant of what’s actually going on.
