Did we learn anything about where we stand with D. McKinley this past weekend?

With all of the excitement over Simmons & Durham, etc., I hadn't heard any status update on McKinley. Anyone know how it went?

Word from experts is LSU put themselves in position and are in much better position than before. Staff made a connection with family and even offered his younger brother. No where near a closed deal but have positioned to close the deal with an official saved for the season.

I think we gave him something to think about and offering his brother was a smart thing. They want to play together and his lil bro will turn out to be a solid player. So there’s a chance you’d end up offering him even if Dominick goes elsewhere. Having DL coach issues doesn’t help but when you have a guy like Jancek hanging around on staff he seems like a very overqualified DL coach. I don’t think it’ll be what keeps him from coming. I’d be more worried about the bag.

We could get three Acadiana guys these next three years.

Dominick McKinley: top player in state 2024
Russell Babineaux: Acadiana’s head coach said in an interview he could be the best WR Acadiana’s ever had. Will be a top 100 guy in 2025.
Darryus McKinley: DE that’s already 6’3 255 going into sophomore year and runs track. Could very well be the top player in LA for 2026.

Things seem to be going in a positive direction. Texas is considered the biggest threat. Offer to his brother was calculated and meant alot to him and his family. Kelly has personally gotten involved in this recruitment.

If he picked today I don’t think it would be LSU but LSU is definitely pushing the all the right buttons down the stretch. Definitely in a much better position after him visiting the bash.

Oklahoma also thinks they are in a good spot with him. Some think a decision comes soon. Don’t think him and family enjoy the recruiting process as much.

Seems like a great kid, but being the best receiver Acadiana ever had is not necessarily high praise. That is not a knock, it is good to be the best athlete at any position your high school ever produced. But Acadiana has run a veer offense since Bill Dotson started coaching there, that was 1975 or 1976 I believe. I am not sure what they ran under Cavalier, the previous coach who went on to be the principal at Acadiana. They haven't produced many notable receivers because receivers in a veer tend to be more like old-school receivers who had to block almost as well as they could catch and mostly got short passes.

Looking forward to that changing with Babineaux, though.

Good history lesson(I actually did enjoy reading it) but it's just hyperbole in coach speak. Everyone is quick to declare the current as the best ever. Hypeman 101

OSU or OU

He's a quiet, reserved kid. Feels like Austin wouldn't be his scene and doesn't appear to be money hungry enough to sell his soul for an 8&4 bag.

Both OSU and OU have had success with DL development, so I could see it being one of them.

Not to say LSU isn't right there - he's just been extremely quiet about his recruitment so we really have no idea where we stand.

I mean at this point LSU would be a surprise, right? I wouldn't make anything of that.

From what I heard the LSU side wanted him to take it into the fall. Having a decision sooner leads to believe the pick isn't LSU? That is just based on Bengal Tiger Podcast from two days ago.

Yeah him signing before taking OV to LSU and before season start signals not LSU. Still have a shot until signing day to get him on campus and make late push.

I think he ultimately takes it to the fall or even signing day

Let’s remember, he’s the rare 5 star that didn’t blow up until relatively late in the process. Colin Simmons has been getting heavily recruited for years now, McKinley hasn’t. It’s still new to him.

I do think not having Jimmy Lindsey hurts here, unlike Simmons. Let’s hope we get him.

My late brother was a sophomore when the school opened in 1969. My mom worked there from very early, maybe from the start (I was 6 when it opened so can't recall exactly), in the cafeteria (yes, my mom was a lunch lady ). And I was a classmate of Coach/Principal Cavalier's second son from Kindergarten (still friends). I graduated in 1980 from Acadiana. So a lot of it is like personal history for me. Unfortunately, I lost both my mom and my brother this past year so I can't ask them for the details of these things, 2022 kind of sucked for our family.

Just saw on twitter he is looking to make a decision before his senior season starts. Which I believe is just a couple weeks away.
