A move to DT makes some sense. If he stays at DE that makes him, Allen, Bates, and Fordham? at DE? That's a large haul at DE

Well, think through the alternatve. Let's assume this player turns out to be great via a small school. And later we learn that he camped at LSU and we declined to offer him "because nobody has ever heard of him." That would stink royally too.
Our coaches have to be able to recognize talent and act on it regardless of what others think.

He's got to be a Mingo type though for me to buy it. Actually, even that doesn't make sense. Mingo played 1 year and went to the Army All American game.

BTW, I'm still getting this when I search his name on Rivals:

All I have to say is:
Excerpt from Jerry Rice bio
Excerpt from Jerry Rice bio
quote:
As a high school player, he became an All-State end and defensive back (and also played running back and quarterback at times), but was not good enough to warrant scholarship offers from the 40 or so National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I-A schools that showed interest. Even Mississippi State, just 20 miles away, didn't offer a scholarship. But Archie Cooley, coach of Division I-AA Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena, Mississippi, had heard about Rice. Rice says of Cooley: "no one else came to see me in person." Based on that, as well as the urging from his older brother Tom, Jerry accepted the scholarship offer from MVSU and arrived in Itta Bena in 1981.

All I have to say is there wasn't an internet and recruiting wasn't even in the same galaxy as it is now.

Possibly, but not likely. What I meant was that the "look at his offer list" rule doesn't always seem to apply.

how does the internet change recruiting? All it does is let us know what's happening.
