Dear LB recruits: "Aranda basically changed my life", Duke Riley

Riley - Aranda
Gents, Sir Riley was a 3star recruit according to 247. The only other SEC schools that recruited him were MSU, OM and Ark. Riley will likely be a 3rd round draft pick after an unbelievable year in Aranda's first year as LSU's DC. And by the way, Duke said this before his great season even started.
Food for thought....

this is the stuff i don't get, Aranda has a proven track record of developing LB's into studs yet we have to beg every linebacker south of the mason-Dickson to consider being in the P&G.
Tough times gents

You should look at the post above yours

Just shows you don't have to be 240+ ILB to be successful in the league. Kwon and Debo lighting it up at 230lbs.

I've seen mocks with him drafted higher than Beckwith, which makes absolutely zero sense, but it shows how far he's come.

Maybe because of Beckwith's injury

I pray LSU lands Gay, Phillips and Queen! Those dudes are gonna wreck the SEC!

That's the only thing I can assume. No idea why some think he goes in round 4 though. Unless they think he cant recover, that's awfully low for one of the best ILBs in the country. The only other thing I could think of is maybe since he's so big even for an ILB they think he may struggle to cover in the pass happy NFL.

Very happy for Riley. He stuck with it, paid his dues on special teams, continued to develop as a player, and now he's going to get was he's earned. He has good size (I thought he came into the season at 240?), good instincts, and he can run. That will make you some money in the NFL.

Beckwith is an ELITE athlete for his size, but doesn't have the greatest instincts for an ILB. I'm definitely not saying he's terrible, but for someone who played a ton of snaps he still seemed to struggle to diagnose plays consistently. God bless you if you happen to get in his way when he's picking up steam though.

quote:you will get downvoted for this, but I thought the same thing. Maybe it was the role in the defense, but you saw Duke fill in quicker, especially at the back half of the season.

I think Riley may be more versatile in todays NFL.
Beckwith was my favorite Tiger defensive player this year BTW, so not a slight on him.

I think Amanda let's his playmaker fly around making plays instead of rigidly sticking to textbook coaching

Interesting to hear that take on Beckwith. I feel like that was true in prior seasons but there were more than a few plays this year where I actually thought that he was blitzing because he was in the backfield so quickly. I thought he did much better in Aranda's system.

I'm gonna say it like a man
And make you understand
Aranda

If Riley goes higher than Beckwith, the Saints need Beckwith.

quote:I did too, our defense as a whole was more sound than prior years, but I do believe that Riley was better at shutting down plays early. TFL numbers show that as well, but KB was out hurt for a bit, so I don't know that is an accurate measure. shite, he would have had 5 TFL against Louisville probably
