Guess I'm too old to see how this is a good recruiting tactic for young people. Not sure who organized that but it does look kinda weird.

And yet here we are discussing them along with several other universities.
I’m not sure what your point is here. We are talking about any DTs we could get our hands on. I follow recruiting and had never heard the name Damonic Williams before he entered the portal and the OnlY reason his name matters to me is because there is a DT next to his name. I don’t do t give a shite if his name is Jackmerius Tacktheratrix as long as he can occupy blockers and free up our linebackers.

Don't worry, I got crucified by your loyal subjects in the anchored Damonic thread lower on the page for "having something against you". I guess when I don't post on here as often as I used to, I lose standing on here
Na people just got confused by your tone and mistook you for bloupe2

There is nothing in place that keeps coaches from moving from job to job every year.
Yes there is. It’s called a contract. There are buyout clauses and things like that which have to be satisfied to move on.

They can. There is no "employment" contract between the player and the team. The only "contract" is the 1 year scholarship agreement to attend the school.
quote:
A coach can kick a player off the team ("cut him") during the season without any real recourse from the player.
While NIL contracts are, in essence, "pay for play" contracts, they aren't employment contracts. Everything you are saying should be allowed IS allowed. A coach can dismiss a player from the team at any time.
Contrary to popular belief, scholarships are no longer the “1 year deals” they used to be. At least not for autonomy conferences (power 5).
In the power 5 conferences, scholarship non-renewal is treated effectively the same way as scholarship cancellation. The team has to have a valid, non-athletic reason to decline to renew a scholarship for a player with remaining eligibility. There is a list of valid reasons in the D1 manual that includes stuff like code of conduct violations, failing to meet academic requirements, etc. - but it’s explicitly against the rules to non-nenew based on athletic performance.
So while a coach can theoretically dismiss a player for any reason, that doesn’t mean the coach can pull (or non-renew) the player’s scholarship for any reason. And for the time being, the scholarship limit still acts as an effective cap on the “recruited” roster.
This rule was implemented to eliminate the practice at top programs of oversigning and “processing” players to get back under the limit. That said, we all know players still get processed. But nowadays it requires at least some amount of cooperation from the player. Theoretically, a player who is told to look elsewhere can say “no.”

When I saw this the first time I didn't read the sign or the tweet and I thought it was Texas and I laughed. Then I realized and I did not laugh. However, I'm a 36 year old man with 0 football talent and if this gets us commitments bring on the awkward sign dancing.
100% this. This seems lame as frick and I'm kind of embarrassed.
But if it's what gets Damonic in the door, shite, I'll hold the sign next time.

That’s a Tiger
ETA: Texas met with him last night and apparently upped his NIL offer. Oklahoma feels good they’re meeting this morning around 10.

Gerry Hamilton says that LSU is out because of NIL
and it’s Oklahoma and Texas
On3 Texas says it’s Texas , OU then LSU

And is Gerry Hamilton credible?
Posted on 5/2/24 at 8:43 am to Draco Malfoy
He’s a homer for Texas. I wouldn’t say reliable. But since this is decision day there’s going to be a lot of information going around. I’ll post what I find.

Good luck to the young man but he’s missing a chance to get coached up by the best -Bo Davis

Hate to say it he’s very credible

There's no excuse to be beaten out NIL wise for a player like this. It's just a cop out if thats the end story. This is the position of by far most need, you match whatever offer is out there without question. We cant limp into next season with Paez and Guillory as our starting interior guys with the guys behind them as well. Gotta have another starting caliber player minimum and we really need 2 more good DTs.

Texas VIP board is saying Texas is out.
They said OU is the favorite with LSU a close second. Apparently he and Venables have a strong relationship
