Definitely was an issue with Kiel. Momma had a much easier time because he has a legitimate shot to start at ND right away. Had no real shot to beat out Mettenberger IMO. Same with Collins. He would have played more than Kiel as a TF but certainly would not start. Could be a starter before the year's out at 'Bama.

The problem is, we're two deep at most every position with guys who HAVE to play for two more years. Hell, even Saban can tell kids that most of the secondary is out the door, and recruits are signing to be second string out of the gate. This makes LSU a tough sell to the elite prospects of the country right now.

Doesn't seem to bother Bama, USC, Texas, OSU, or even FSU. Top 10 (even top 5) rankings in Rivals and Scout since '08.

I don't agree about depth being that big a deal in our recruiting. It's been proven to not matter by the schools mentioned above. Miami in the '80s and '90s, FSU in the late '80s and '90s, USC under Carroll, UF under Spurrier and Meyer and Bama currently haven't had a problem getting monster class after monster class. It's the pitches and our location that hurts us particularly with OOS recruiting. We are sort of on an island in regards to location and I think it's a factor. Also has to do with the fact that we don't have a strong recruiting staff. We have a good, solid recruiting group but not in the class of some schools. I do however believe we have a top notch evaluation staff so we make up the difference there.

To be fair to LSU, we have also ranked in the top 10 annually on these sites. Scout is most legit IMO and with a strong finish, we will definitely be top 10 for the 7th straight season. People need to chill. LSU is one of the most talented teams in annually and that won't stop anytime soon.

I understand and I do think we will have a very good class. Need LBs and DBs to fill holes, and it loks like we have some good ones. I just want ALL the 5 stars in our house!!!!

Bama's in the middle of a dynasty right now. Two out of three bcs titles means you get pretty much anyone you want regardless of depth.

Scrolling through the Scout top 100 is very depressing.

Fl St 7
Bama 6
Texas 6
michigan 6
Oh St 6
Fla 6
ND 6
LSU 1 at #94 (T Davis)
Our highest 4* is a 5.8 (5.7 is a 3*)

Rivals even worse.
Bama.....8
LSU......0

What nonsense. Take a look at past recruiting classes for top schools, including LSU. No one with a brian thinks the program is "imploding" whatever that's supposed to mean, but this is not a great class. Losing Kiel sucks because he waited until the last minute and cost us Miller. But in general, its not that big of a deal. Losing Collins otoh to Bama sucks, bad. Hopefully its just a fluke. But

It's a matter of what we need. Despite Keil leaving we are still pretty talented at QB. Our linebackers are a focus point this year.

We were plenty talented at QB in 2006, who did that work out in 2008? We need a QB in this class and really a QB every year.

Agreed, and we have no idea how talented this QB group is at all.

My brian isn't as sharp as yours, but this is still a damn good class that covered a lot of needs. Most anyone who follows recruiting knows that elite prospects want to get on the field early and start building their rep for the NFL.

Bama is unique in that the media has proclaimed Saban a god when it comes to molding NFL prospects. Even if that's not true, this makes guys a little more patient with the time frame.

Guys who wouldn't normally take a red shirt will take one for Saban, with faith that it's all part of the process. Then they're dismissed from the team for sneezing wrong.

Texas, OSU, and all the other sleeping giants are easy to sell to a recruit, all you have to say is "you're the one piece we're missing, so come start."

We lose great kids every year too.

Same logic applies to AL, etc

Kids want to play for a winning program AND a coach that gets them to the NFL. Mo will go in the 1st round for LSU. How many AL players go in the 1st round this year?

Whats with all the chicken little stuff. We haven't finished filling up the class. We consistently get NSD commitments, we have a lot of young talent currently enrolled, and lastly, would you rather pick up guys that sign LOI on signing day or have verbal commitments like Kiel's?

Relax people, it's home stretch. LSU consistently does well at this point in recruiting. Even ESPN spoofed a commercial off of how good Les is at this. The sky isn't falling until after NSD, up until then, stop worrying. LSU will be inside or near the top 10. We will be fine.
