Yep.

'83 - lousy record but our O rocked. Had lost, I think, 9 starters on D from '82.
'84 - should've had a win vs UF at the Swamp by Betanzos missed a short FG and we tied.
'85 - led a last minute comeback and should've beat Bama but Lewis missed a short FG and we tied.

As for bowls, I got the impression that Arnsparger wanted championships and cared little about bowl games.

I actually liked Wick...He was getting killed quite often..throwing in duress..Tough as nails though..get right back up..I think Florida set some sort of school record for sacks in a single game in a 20-0 Gator win in Tiger Stadium.Bad times there...But Geaux Tigers...Hope his son gets his chance here!

I remember him as being one of the strongest qb's ever at LSU. Kid was the strongest bench presser on the team or close.
He did throw two crucial Int's against Neb in second half of Suger bowl.

Kyle Wickersham (son of former LSU QB Jeff Wickersham)

Jeff was a very highly recruited and rated QB back in the day. His freshman season he beat out Timmy Byrd for the backup spot and Timmy was a pretty good QB in his own rights. Recruiting at the time isn't like it is now. Unless you knew a recruit personally you didn't hear their name or know LSU was recruiting them. The first time you heard the names was after they signed. Jeff was an exception, he was an all American, Parade I think. He had a good arm, not great, very good accuracy up to 25 yards and was a decent athlete. Surprised we got him out of Florida. This was back when Schnellenberger was building his dynasty in Miami. Jeff set passing records at LSU and soon as he left the next guy came in and broke all of them. If not all then most, some dude named Hodson. Funny, Hodson beat out Stan Humphries and Stan transferred. But Stan had the better NFL career. Odd the difference between success in college and the NFL.

He’s apparently a good guy. He was NOT underrated. He had an upper end NFL arm. He had prototypical NFL size, and he was smart. I always thought he must have had something wrong with his peripheral vision, because he would laser a pass 20 yards over the middle to a receiver who had a DB breaking in front of him.

Sorry, it was an old article in Tiger Rag last year and not able to find to confirm, but there was a family photo and Jeff's wife and daughter are great on the eyes. Daughter coming to LSU as an athlete but drawing a blank re which sport.

Wickersham's daughter is a freshman softball player:

I think LSU will go all out for Jake Garcia in '21.

That kid is very tough. If he doesn't play QB in college, he will play another position. He lays the wood.

I remember Jim Nasium when he would talk about Jeff Weeekersham. Life was less stressful being an 80's Tiger fan.

I coached this kid in his youth and I’m telling you he’d make the other team quit.

I always thought he would grow into a DE.

Heck, recruit him as a LS and give him one of those schollies we seem to burn every single year. Why?

It was a joke (sort of). Almost every year it seems we burn a scholarship on a long-snapper. If Wickersham is a high-ceiling, LSU-loving kid with a great pedigree, with his only downside being he is coming off a fairly major injury, then just pull the trigger and be prepared to simply use a scholarship we typically burn on a low priority position. We need long snappers, but in my opinion, not at a rate of about 1 per year.
