Alford is one of the top 10 overall players in the Mississippi c/o 2012 and is the top baseball prospect in the state. According to the latest Ole Miss Rivals site, Alford has been offered by Ole Miss, State, and LSU. I have seen the kid play numerous times, and he is a great athlete who reminds me of a Tyrod Taylor or Denard Robinson type run first QB from the spread offense.

Do you LSU fans think this offer is legit? Alford was in Baton Rouge last weekend and met with coach Mainari (sp) and toured both the baseball and football facilities and watched the game vs Mississippi State.

I think LSU is one of the best schools for a baseball / football dual sport athlete. They have a chance to play for the National Title in both sports every year. If State and Ole Miss are the only competition I would say LSU wins out for a kid that wants to play both. If you mix Florida in, it's not so certain.

My wife teaches in Petal and talked to Anthony yesterday and he told her that he didn't have an offer yet. She told him to be patient. I'm not sure what rivals is talking about but he did say he has one from Ole Miss.

I think it is the best for that. I mean baseball you are coming to a program who is great at recruiting, has the best fan base and a team who is a consistant threat in post season play. In football you are coming to a team that is in the SEC, the team is always ranked and won two titles this past decade. I can't think of other schools who have our resume in the two sports.

I feel gun shy about top baseball prospects who play football.

I cant get all worked up about this guy until Sept 2012.

The guy is gonna be recruited as an athlete to LSU not a QB. Its not like he will put us in a shitty situation (like our QB depth chart) if he opts to sign with an MLB team. His situation is probably pretty comparable to Jared Mitchells.

I'd take him but would show him our past run INS with this bullshite. Then I'd tell him, " if you commit, then you better not talk to an agent. If you do, I'll pull the offer. Don't commit until you know for sure what you want to do."

can't take a chance with that crap again and I'm not going to lose another qb bc of the numbers.

No offer yet from LSU, but tremendous athlete. MS Sate will offer very soon, if not already. They need this type of athlete bad. LSU will offer within the month if they are going to...their eval is complete, they have seen some Jr year film now and he could perhaps be a athlete/slash/spread running QB/DB guy. Scary, but think of where this kid could be 4 yrs from now, as a red shirt soph with 3 yrs of eligibility left...much better than he is now.

The only similarities between Anthony and Chad Jones is that they both play baseabll and footabll and that they are great athletes. That is where the comparision ends. Alford is a QB and wants to be recruited as a QB not as an athlete.

FWIW his HS coach is a former LSU ast under Hallman, his name is Steve Buckley and he coached RBs at LSU in the early 90's.

The staffs at LSU, State, and Ole Miss all highlights on him. His head coach isn't a big fan of the recruiting sites like rivals and scout. There is some video of him if you go to www.petalfootball.com

Alford threw for 3 Tds and 180 yds tonight and ran for over 100 and a TD, but his team lost a nailbiter to Biloxi 41-38 in OT

I hope he goes to college. Football is his favortie sport, but he knows he's better at baseball. Maybe he will choose LSU. It is his favortie team.
