I am a little too young to remember but am having an argument with a friend about Farve. Did LSU recruit him hard? Why did he end up at Southern Miss over SEC schools? Any details greatly appreciated......

lsu did not recruit him hard at all.

USL recruited him very hard to play d.b./safety. he was very close to signing with usl but still had the desire to play q.b.

southern miss was the only div 1 school that would offer him a q.b. scholly.

Farve played for his Dad in HS at Hancock North Central here in South Mississippi and he ran the wishbone so he didnt get many opportunities to pass the ball. Most of the schools that recruited him were looking at him as a safety and as the last guy said USM was the only to give him a chance at QB. He started his freshman year 4th or 5th in the depth charts but was starting by the end of the year and the rest is History.

To my knowledge LSU never even showed ANY INTEREST in Favre.

I'm pretty sure his high school coach set up a meeting with USM coach (curly I think). They walked on the field Farve threw a hand full of passes and received a ship when he saw that cannon.

Brett farve founded USM so naturally he named himself the starting qb of the football team and choose the position of catcher for various reasons on the baseball team

And neither did any other big school. Everyone missed on Farve, just like everyone missed on Jerry Rice except Mississippi Valley State.

Ironically, of the Mississippi football stars, only Archie was not overlooked. Walter Payton, Jerry Rice, Steve McNair and Brett Favre were all overlooked.

You'd figure that having dad as the head coach, he would've been showcased better for college scouts. Instead, his primary job was handing off and blocking for the tailback. He was pretty much QB/FB in high school.

Nope, just daughters.

He has a brother that played LB at USM around the same time he played there that has sons.

Brett's nephew Dylan Favre had very gaudy stats playing QB for St Stanislaus. He didn't get any offers better than Miss State due to his 5'10" stature.

Dylan Farve is not an SEC caliber QB. He played at a private school in the MS 2A Private league I think with guys running wide open and threw 500+ time in a high school season. He runs a 4.8-4.9 in the 40 and 4.5-4.6 in the shuttle. He is maybe 5' 10" and throws side arm. He is a good, not great athlete and is a fairly accurate passer and very good scrambler and he is tough. Southern MS did not offer...in fact only MS State did and very late, after others (and many others they wanted) had committed elsewhere. I believe their reasons for recruiting him had more to do with money, getting Brett in the stands, etc. Dylan is a great kid though and friendly, not stuck on himself.
