like his potential. Very high motor
I really hate when this is used to describe a recruit. Its like you're trying to make yourself feel better about missing out on higher rated recruits

Fonua felt the love from LSU
quote:
“Meeting with Coach O and my family and giving him my commitment, it was emotional,” Fonua said. “It was the highlight of the weekend for me. Just that moment of being in Coach O’s office and the tears running down our faces. It was just emotional.
quote:
Fonua credited the LSU staff for winning him and his family over in the final weekend of his recruitment process, circling Orgeron and area recruiter Bill Busch as two key pieces to getting the deal done between the two sides.
quote:
Fonua was able to spend the weekend with a pair of players with deep Polynesian ties in defensive end Breiden Fehoko and defensive tackle Siaki Ika. Busch was also the lead recruiter on Ika, who popped for the Tigers in December. Like Ika, Fonua is a Salt Lake City native, and the chance to link up with them both at the college level is one he’s excited about as he prepares to move to Baton Rouge.

Miss state has made a living with juco guys in recent years on their defense. I’m not saying we should be comprised of mainly juco guys, but they are helpful in certain situations.

speed from both sides will be a luxury we haven't had in a while.

True
It would be really dumb of any coach to exclude JUCO guys. There have been some very good ones who played in the SEC.

I think meatball needs to be shown the door

Well don't look at the 24/7 2020 recruit list then.
He is the lead recruiter for the 4-star OT commit from Cedar Hill Texas. And LSU has two 4-star DT's that are committed.
I know what you're saying, and I agree with the premise. However, I think what he is saying is that Meatball hasn't done well on the DL in either of the last couple of cycles. And this is certainly true.
Hopefully the current status of the 2020 class is a sign of this changing.

Glad the Tigers got him and didn't wait around.
Looks like a solid OLB that can bring energy off the bench to rest Divinity when needed this year. His highlights show he has a good first step and doesn't quit on plays. He also finds the ball efficiently. Only negative I saw in his highlights was his punch on offensive linemen didn't seem to have enough power to move them and he relied on an outside or inside move for pass rush. The big, athletic offensive tackles in the SEC will be able to stone him if he doesn't improve his leverage and strength at the point of attack. But...
He also has a big frame and looks like he could lose a few pounds of "bad weight" and add a lot of muscle and improve his power at the point of attack on bigger, more athletic offensive linemen. And coming in fresh off the bench will give an advantage against tackles who may not be ready for someone fresh with his motor and first step.

BOOM! Soni Fonua Commits
His film looks good, very athletic for his size, comes off blocks good, quick to read plays, high motor. I think Fonua contributes right away. LSU is opening up a pipeline to Polynesian players and the Hawaiian Islands. From what Shea said Orgeron say Fonua's film and instantly feel in love with this guy. Played OLB, DE (2 point and 3 point stances) but with his size I'd think he will be playing more DE in a 3 point stance. This is a much better get than what will show on paper right now.

Finally, take a look at the film of JUCO DL Soni Fonua. The former HS OLB/WR added 50 pounds without losing a step in junior college and is blowing up as a DL prospect. The Tongan - a product of SLC East High like current Longhorn Junior Angilau - looks to be
