I'm not even aware of what drill everyone is talking about, but I can about imagine how meaningless it is.
Like the broad jump. When is that ever going to matter on the defensive line? Or running those little obstacle courses? Is it that complicated to get to the QB?
Just give me someone who is strong, with a quick first step, and good balance. Everything else is mental. Lots of workout warriors are useless on the field.

I agree with you on a lot of that. But the broad jump is one of the most translatable metrics to football and athletes. Football and a lot of the defensive line is all hips

It's a jump. Other than trying to knock down a pass once in a while, jumping is not required on the defensive line. I don't believe that jumping tells you everything about hips. To me, it's just an evaluation overreach.
I care more about those kinds of workouts for DB's and WR's. There just isn't a statistical correlation to guys who excel in those kinds of drills, on the D-line, being more successful on the field than those who don't excel in the drill. It's a lot about brute strength and quick steps, rather than having great hips. And, really, it's more mental than anything. Being able to read and anticipate how your opponent is going to react to your movements is how the best pass rushers get it done.
If you can do that, and you can be a workout champion on top of that, great. I just think people overvalue certain drills.

Broad jump correlates to explosiveness.

So do lots of other drills. It doesn't make you a good football player. Being a defensive lineman does not require freak athleticism. It's nice if you have it, but it doesn't matter if you have no football IQ, and you give up easily.

I noticed that Landyn Watson tweeted "yes sir" to Landon Jackson's commitment tweet.
"Yes sir" is what Kevin Sumlin used to tweet when someone committed to TA&M.

Let’s just say Landyn Watson is being recruited as a TE to some schools

Exactly. I was shocked when I saw we got him yesterday.
