Guy I know from that area has actually coached this guy from awhile. This morning he texted me
"You Baton Rouge boys are getting one of my players. Pure shooter and can score points in bunches. Great kid!..... you give him an inch of space and he will make you pay"

Same guy told me that Will Wade just offered another kid from the area, Jordan Toles.

Why are we so excited over a 3 star? Is this a situation where hes about to explode in national ranking?

Long time ago, they were looking at Avery Anderson, who is a 4-star...during this past summer, after monitoring both Avery Anderson and James Bishop, they decided to stop pursuing Anderson and go full court press on Bishop, brought him in for a visit recently, etc...
Bishop had a MUCH better summer than Anderson and Billy over at 247 will tell you as much - he saw both guys play this summer and said it wasn't even really close. Bishop is a pure scorer, averaged like 23 points a game in AAU play this summer and shot 41% from 3. By comparison Anderson averaged like 8 points/3 assists in AAU play.
Long story short, Bishop was an alpha all summer in AAU play, which is what you want to see. Anderson was a beta and kind of took a back seat.
Anderson is still ranked much higher than Bishop, but that can definitely change.

i know almost nothing about bball recruiting but his videos make him look much better than the 150th or so prospect for 2019

The guy who asks why people are so excited about the best player coming out of Baltimore this year committing to us?
Yeah that guy.
Yeah that guy.

What does that have to do with anything?
I didn't rank him. But he is ranked lower than it seems he should be. Hence my original question, clown

Rivals has him as a 4* player (119 overall) if that helps.
I think this is one of those situations where you give Wade the benefit of the doubt. Since he's been at LSU he has landed some very highly sought after recruits. If he thinks this kid is worthy of a scholarship, then I'm willing to trust him.
Where someone is from doesn't always give you an idea of how good they are (ex. Baton Rouge has an inordinate amount of really good basketball players), but the Baltimore/D.C. area is a pretty good hotbed for talent. If nothing else, you have to assume this kid has played against some really good competition.

Agreed.

Given the kind of expectations we have this year, Wade must think highly of these players to accept commitments this early and/or wants to land some 3-4 year players instead of waiting on 1-2 year guys.

When Wade was at VCU as an Assistant to Smart, and when he was Head Coach, he was all over the Maryland/DC area recruiting. Many of their players were guys like this. 3-Star kids that took them to the NCAA every year.
