They've generally been a top 20 team in terms of recruiting (coming in at #9 this season). I suppose you could say that is "tier 2" if the likes of Duke, Kentucky, UNC, Kansas are considered to be "tier 1". But Pearl hasn't been a bad recruiter by any means.

More than that though Wade has proven to be a fantastic recruiter (regardless of by what means you think he has done so). So even though this guy has a low star ranking I'm willing to give Wade the benefit of the doubt

Wade has done really well with the National guys, but his lower tier recruits by & large have been a bust, outside of Skylar Mays.

Ching Chong's boyfriend signed Mays, not the General.

Yep, Skylar was not a Wade recruit. Was already at LSU when Wade was hired.

Wade and staff definitely did a great job of developing him though.

I think an argument can be made that Rachal would have turned out to be a good player after some development and he was signed by Wade (even if not recruited by him).

Rachal started to look much better at the end of his freshman year but couldn’t stay out of the doghouse and thus got the boot.

That’s true, I forgot that. I thought I had remembered him decommiting & wade having to re-recruit him

To some degree, yes. But, you could also argue there haven't been a ton of those guys he's recruited. I'm willing to give him a bit of a pass with the 2017 class because he came in late. At that point it was really just a get who you can get situation. Most of the other "lower ranked" guys have been JUCO transfers. Those have been hit and miss.

Really, the only two "low ranked" HS players he's brought it after 2017 were Hyatt and Bishop. Neither have been/were impact players. But they essentially only played one season at LSU. I think you would expect those type of players to take a bit more time to develop.

Certainly his current ranking doesn't really move the needle. But it does look like his recruitment by more prominent teams has only just recently taken off.
