I figured this was the best board to come to for advice/information. My son is in the Class of 2025, playing football for the first time (he spent all summer in their OTAs), and if not for Covid would have made state all 3 years of high school (all except 2021 competing in the older age group) in Track. There is so much conflicting info out there and my knowledge of the process ends in the mid 90s.
Position/measurables:

205 lb

What is the best way to get him into the pipeline? He's already standing out in practices and thankfully they aren't forcing to play exclusively on the Varsity squad. Are the regional combine camps the best place to start? Or is some combination of combine and campus camps the way to go?

Go to camps, but honestly, if he’s good enough he’ll be found. Even in Selma, Alabama

Start him on agility drills. 6`8 he's going to be on the line.

Simplest answer is get him in to ANY camp At Any college campus. If he has potential, word spreads.

I’m assuming he is a thrower of some sort? If so, record his official times (or his track times if he is a sprinter) from an objective source.

Those will get respect immediately as they are objective times and no one can say he ran a 10.9 or jumped 6’6” or whatever against easy competition.

Orgeron himself said to Bruce Feldman that he takes official track times very seriously. Of course there is a high standard for elite speed. I think for RB/CB/WR, it was 10.7 seconds and lower

You have lots of time. If he isn't attracting attention going into his junior season then you should start helping to promote him. If he is D1 material, he will most likely be identified by then. I wish the best for you and your son.

Offensive Tackle. I would recommend starting him at that position right now, as he will eventually grow out of the other two, but if he tops out at 6’6 ish and still has that athleticism TE is possible.

Edit: OT is also the 2nd highest paid position in football

Thanks! He's a 100/200/4x200 runner. He settled in at 11.8 on a truncated season last spring. Hitting 4.6-4.7 seems to line up with most TE/OLBs. He's gained a lot of speed over the summer after we spent time working on his explosiveness and putting up more consistent times over the course of the workout and week to week, ending up being consistently at or under 11.3. Without a basketball background I don't think height at TE will be a valuable as at LT but to the team right now his athleticism would be "wasted" anchored to the line.

We live in a small "bedroom" community 15 miles away from a major college. There's a class of 2023 basketball player who's already been offered by a bunch of schools (his dad has bankrolled him going all around the region to be seen), a baseball player who is headed to a Big Ten school, and there was a recent grad who ended up on a top half SEC softball team. My wife and I are from different states. I was on the line & went to State but my wife went to the same HS as my son does now and was recruited as a thrower by Arkansas before deciding to go where she did (becoming a multi time A-A at a P5 school.) The football program is the one that has not had that breakthrough P5 recruit yet. Rivals and Nike look to be two camps that offer some exposure and into the databases. I'm more of a guy who doesn't want to misstep and miss an opportunity than one who wants to go overboard. Above all else it still needs to be fun for him. I think any well adjusted parent should want that first and foremost.

La. Line camp helped my friends son immensely with his fundamentals. I also would create a Twitter to post videos of him doing anything football related and then tag coaches in it. Especially max preps videos of game tape. If you google create 247 profile you can turn all his info in and get him listed on 247. Best of luck.

Camps at major schools or affiliated with a recruiting service like 247 or rivals.

Get on a really good competitive 7on7 team in the summer. These teams really get looked at hard especially at tourneys.

Hudl videos hopefully your school is prepared to help supply video for your account.

Worse comes to worse every school has recruiting contact sites to contact coaches about prospects. LSU's is on LSUSports.net. I am sure all schools have one similar.

He's on pace to be 6'8 255 running a 10.5 hundred meters. He don't need no help.

Thankfully the coaches have it setup for playbooks, film study, etc. and the players have their own logins. I come from a tech background so I can do a bunch of stuff most parents would pay to have done by someone else. I've watched videos of the kid he's replacing to get some idea of what they ran and the two of them are almost polar opposites.

I setup a Twitter account for him on the last morning of his middle school track season. I have noticed a lot of accounts seemingly being used as public recruiting diaries. I've always wondered if coaches/recruiting coordinators pay attention to new followers? I know there are a lot of timelines for various forms of contact but I would think mutual follows would be an easy way to express interest without actually engaging in a conversation.

My son is a 2025 too, and he lettered for the HS varsity track team last year in 8th grade (his school is all-boys 7th-12th)… they got third in state in the 4x400, 4A. He wanted to run shorter distances, but couldn’t quite compete at the HS level (down here in S MS). Won many 400 races though.

He’ll be the varsity kicker as a freshman and he’s really keen to play for a good college. We’ve gone to a few camps, but I’ve held him out of the national ranking camps until he gets his freshman season under his belt.

Being a specialist is different, but I assume camps are where the best compete. Put him under pressure and see if he likes to compete, seems like he’s got everything else.

If you’re really invested, sounds like you need to move schools while he is still young enough

Camps and film of him being a badass. Nobody gets slept on anymore. If he’s really a player, he will be found

This. The school you play at matters. Some coaches promote their potential recruits better than others

The school you play at only matters if you are borderline low d2/d3

If you’re elite, you’ll be found, I’d argue even faster at small schools.

Now will you get better developed at a “powerhouse” school? Probably. But maybe not.
