Top Class – LSU

Not that LSU needs any more talent at running back with two elite sophomores returning but they’re getting it. We wouldn’t take major issue if Derrius Guice was called the best back in the country. Nick Brossette has been one of the nation’s most productive backs in high school. David Ducre is listed as a fullback but is a specimen both physically and athletically. All three are ranked in the Top247. The LSU backfield continues to be an embarrassment of riches.

Sounds like we need to start thinking about adopting the GTECH or Navy offense.

Sounds like they need to wait until after NSD to announce this type of stuff.

In 2008 it was obvious we should have done more option and power run. LSU, if they can get the lineman they want, will always have a stable of running backs. It boggles my mind when LSU gets away from the power run. Grind down teams and play ball control. It's a beautiful thing.

LSU should get away from the I formation and shift to a traditional pro style 2 back set, like the Saints ran with Muncie and Galbreath. They should have been doing this for awhile actually given the usual allotment of 3-4 NFL skill backs on the roster from 2005-2014.

You can do so much more with the passing game out of this formation and yet can still have a lead back on between the tackle runs. But it could force the defense to anticipate that the backs could go to either side of the formation as blockers or in pass routes. This formation keeps the linebackers spread out. The misdirection plays available out of this formation would pose problems as well.

In the video below there are several plays where the middle is wide open once Muncie clears the LOS as Galbreath goes wide at the snap. This likely forces a LB to swing wide in anticipation of the back moving to the flat. Anyway, with the type of RBs on the roster LSU could easily use this type of formation.

That's basically split back, with some power I thrown in. I think LSU could ruin teams with a two back set, and a blocking or passing tight end in each play, sometimes both. It would require less FB play, and more H-back role because, but could you imagine what a team would have to do with Fournette and Guice in the backfield, Johnson at wideout, with a passing and blocking tight end on either side of the line? You'd have to account for a play in every single area of the field.

Well there also is where the issue could be! It is fantastic that LSU will without a doubt have the best backfield in college football for at least the next 2 years and I wouldn't have it any other way.

But there also is where the problem could be, because that does not force Miles to develop the QB position the way he should. If there is even the slightest issue at QB you know Miles is going to go back to a run centric game plan just like this year, and while that will win us some ball games there is no way we vie for an SEC or Naty title without competent QB play.

What year has LSU done well when the QB had to do more than just manage the game?

New England Patriots would be better. a QB who can hit an open man coming over the middle, and not throw behind him or too far in front.
a power running game. that part is covered.

2 and 3 back zone read would be frigging unstoppable

Make our Desean Smith types H-backs and put him in the backfield with Fournette and Guice next year. Championship.

Its something you have to do if you want to continue to move the chains when the defense starts stacking the box with 8, 9+ guys.

Yeah, last year all the QB had to do was manage the game and that wasn't accomplished!!!!

You don't need to look any further than 2014 to prove that point.

I see. Because if you do look further than 2014, your point will be disproven.
