He's going to blow up draft boards before it's all said and done. The tools are there, he's challenged himself against great competition, and he works his tail off with intention. I'm not as worried about his "size" as some, as he's built very well and very twitchy. I really don't know much about his defense, admittedly.

Even if/when he blows up draft boards, I still think he's a guy that could benefit from getting some polish/maturity in a college program like LSU.

The 27 crop has some absolute dudes, even in Louisiana.

btw agree with all this. his defense is pretty damn good now, he has worked hard at it, at least outfield. he has played some infield in travel too. his skill set is suited for CF, RF and 2nd.

very very twitchy

i do agree he could use couple years at LSU for sure for polish and maturity. bat speed is off the charts. he performs on the travel circuit against the best, did good at area code games etc.

last video was taken in early november during the middle of football season to give you a reference.

his skills scale despite size because of the bat speed, the speed on the field, the arm and the workethic.

He's the type of player that needs to be pushed up the defensive spectrum as much as possible. He should be playing SS and CF as much as possible right now.

I know Barbe is a different type of program than most others and they may have a really good SS on the roster as well (I haven't really looked), but to keep pushing his limits and developing, he should get reps there.

they have one of the best defensive SS in the state, he is the top uncommitted kid in the state for 2026, more lower D1 or Juco type kid because very under weight and bat isnt there because of that. shite ton of potential though as he is very young for the class, tall, rangy and skinny

JG isnt really as smooth as a short stop but he has played it some in travel. Problem is both with travel and at barbe...best for the team is him at center like he is now.

Fair questions, as in addition to hard work, he has chosen to move up the ranks via showcases, social media hype, leading to endorsements, buzz, hype, etc. but as LSU777 says, it has not necessarily translated to HS yet. i DO expect that to change his junior/senior year, I am in agreement with 777 on that. Maturity helps, learning that hype only gets you so far, not placing too much stock in the outside stuff and focusing on the on the field stuff. Height is an issue but very twitchy and athletic, bat speed, some swing and miss in his game that I think improves with time and more AB's.

And as you mentioned, if he hits a growth spurt, all bets are off. That would change his football recruiting profile and also boost his draft stock for baseball.

They got overwhelmed in the Quarterfinals by Neville, but I think he scored 15 TDs over the span of his last regular season game and first two rounds of the playoffs. Very, very impressive performances.

It’s interesting because he has a ton of endorsement deals but maybe has fallen off a little as a prospect? Just curious about feedback on him.

Most have covered it in the thread. My two cents was that he probably fell off some due to home much he struggled at the plate at Barbe. He finished the year hitting around .200 was batting 9th by the time the playoffs rolled around. Some were wondering if LSU would back off. But he had an outstanding summer at the plate against competition that likely exceeded what he faced at Barbe. Probably putting too much pressure on himself as opposed to just not being able to handle the pitching, IMO.

Griffin is crazy twitchy which I think is what everyone likes. He has tremendous bat speed but I think he’s still maturing as a hitter to hit for average. But he’s young and competing at a high level so his jr sr year is when that should start to show up.

From an LSU perspective I think he’s an interesting case with the new 34 man roster limit. LSU will sign 20-24 HS kids in 2027 but how many of them make it to campus will be closer to 10-12. Some drafted but some told to go to JUCO. The JUCO’s are getting some wildly talented kids out of HS right now. With the 34 man roster limit it’s basically half pitchers plus a few 2 ways guys and a 2 deep at every position w 3-4 catchers. If a freshman can’t project in that 2 deep then they’re likely being told to go to JUCO. Also seems an IF that can flex to OF gets a more favorable look for D1.

yes everything you said is true...but JG isnt the kind of kid that goes to Juco. If LSU decided to go that route(they wont) he would go to another SEC school in a heartbeat. same with pretty much all our commits.

Agree completely. Some kids like the Juco route to keep draft options open too. Don’t know where his mind leans more towards college or the draft.

And don’t get me wrong…Griffin deserves all of the accolades and will no doubt play high level ball. It’s just a numbers game now at the college level and pitching depth is king.

he is black so they have to throw something out there like that

but he plays the game emotional, but he doesnt have an attitude. talk to him in person and you will see that right off the bat. Most respectful kid you will meet.

Man I’m terrible at remembering anything past yesterday but I know there were 2-3 kids that I’m aware of in the top 25-30 in the LA 2025 class that committed to D1 (1 LSU) that got their offer pulled late and went JUCO. And that’s not a knock on them. It’s just a numbers game and for their position the school didn’t have room. The 3 I’m aware of went to Pearl River and LSUE I think.

For 2024-2025 they could still take 40+ kids all the way through spring. Now they can take 40+ for the fall but have to be at 34-36 by early December. There is no more preferred walk on for the spring. It’s a hard 34 with exceptions up to 36.

So all I’m pointing out is that the line for LSU to decide on a kid moved from 42 to 34 so the room for a kid to develop at LSU for a year or 2 just got really narrow. That being said it’s way too early for 2027 kids but just something to watch for.

Gladney, Froelich, and even though it’s injury related, Louque at LSUE.

Jackson Beddoe at Pearl River

All 4 were d1 commits at one point. There are others I think too. LSUE loaded up on real prospects lately.

He attends all the showcases, I think that’s what the rankings prioritize (attending THEIR events). He’s even missed some district football games (he’s the starting RB) just to attend fall showcases.
