Saban has intimated his desire to sign players simply to weaken an opponent, Makes zero sense

Lester Earl:
If he’s weaken the opponent that means the players he is getting are good which means his team is good and that’s the whole point of recruiting

That’s impossible to do in the age of 85/25, even if it appears so at times. The days of Coach Bryant signing guys to swimming and golf scholarships are over.
I (gulp) agree with Ms Earl.

has he really been this good?

I don’t watch Bama games either so I’m not sure what he’s done against the other teams. LSU abused him and it was spectacular.

But, LSU abuses everyone so, there’s that.

Surtain is currently ranked as the #1 CB off the board for the 2021 draft (Mel Kiper).

If he’s that good, it pisses me off that much more that he could have been playing in our already dominant Defensive backfield this past year. But whatever...

In any case, he is rated that high at the moment. But just for argument sake, Stingley smokes them all!

If Surtain is rated as the #1 cb in the 2021 draft by Mel Kiper then it must be a weak year for cb's.

I’ll be completely honest here, I can’t remember a single play he’s made in college. He’s a 6’2 corner who will look good in a combine setting and probably test well. As far as on the field play, I can’t say he’s been impressive enough in his first 2 years to be the top corner drafted.

This is a thread about how Bama developed players. Williams was developed by Bama into a 3rd rd pick. He was drafted higher than Kwon was.

Yet Kwon was a starter from his first NFL game and has started every single game in his NFL career when he was active and Tim Williams has never started an NFL game. Kwon just signed a $54 million contract and Williams is all but out of the league. I guess we just define “developed “ differently?

Just looked again and Kiper has OSU Shaun Wade as first off the board at #6 and Surtain off the board at #7. Back to back. And listed in the same order at “best at posotion” followed by Molden (Wash), Mukuamu (SoCar), and Abedo (Stanford) to round out top 5 CBs.

Not to be overlooked is the fact that, if Wade goes in round 1, that OSU was playing with 3 first round picks at CB last year!

Umm that’s a good thing for a corner

Surtain has been one of the better deep-ball defenders over the last couple of years, as he ranks fifth in PFF coverage grade on 20-plus yard targets and has allowed just five of 24 targets to be caught while forcing eight incompletions.

Yea you are an idiot

Do you think they offer players off of rankings or personal evaluations?

You don't have to play the same position to be a better player

The 1st corner taken in the draft should be a guy that is known for making plays in college or that completely shuts down his side of the field. Surtain does neither, dumbass. I know when I’ve seen him face the better receivers in college, he hasn’t been elite.

Who have you seen that’s abused him in college? Don’t just talk shite. Name the receivers. Surtain was a projected 1st rounder after his freshman year. He started 12 games as a true freshman for the reigning national champions and a program on the back end of a dynasty. Take your blinders off and get the proverbial LSU cock out your throat

one trick pony in college, but getting sacks is a good trick.

mediocre. Craig Loston had a better career and he was injured a lot.

He's okay but he hasn't impressed me. He'll still be drafted way higher than he should based on measurables though.

Had one good year at Bama, plus when he went JUCO, he wasn't really a Louisiana recruit anymore.

I'll give you Irv Smith Jr, but Devonta would have blown up at LSU, or anywhere else for that matter.

LSU fans are such haters lol

It's not hating, it's called GMs overdrafting based on potential (saw a shite ton of that this year), and they do it all the time. I've watched Moses, and I don't see first round outside of his athletic abilities.

Just because somebody considers somebody first round doesn't mean shite. Kristian Fulton (#3 CB) and Xavier McKinney (#1 S) were locked in as first round picks by virtually everybody, neither went til the second round.

He played because they didn’t have anyone better to play ahead of him. Outside of Minkah, bama has struggled with DB production the past few years.

I don't even know why they are arguing this. If Bama played more good passing teams you'd see just how awful their pass defense, especially the secondary, has been in the past couple years.

Surtain is another overrated one.
