Get as many high end 4-stars everywhere so there is balance on the roster and you can build real depth at all position groups and then be very selective on the 5-star guys and make sure they are close to home with at least a small amount family pressure to stay home.

Because top programs don’t want them either?

Florida got burned on 5 stars last year. This year they waited and now are flipping 4 stars.

frick that, we don’t take a backseat to anyone. Keep swinging. The current system will not continue as is. Boosters will tire of paying high school kids exorbitant amounts of cash without any return. These things usually level out over time.

They do but the non-elite players usually don’t demand top $$$ like the five star plus guys we keep getting burned on going to UT, aTm and Oregon who have unlimited funds. Simple math

No, because the wealthiest programs and their donors aren’t bidding for 4 stars.

There is no fixing this broken system. If they try to limit the money these kids can get paid, lawyers will step in with anti trust suits again because it’s easy to win since the NCAA has no spine. Pandora’s box was opened and there is no way to shut it. And these boosters you speak of write this off as donations for taxes. As long as their school wins they will continue to drop bags

Philips was playing LSU from jump street. His family is greedy and knew how to play the game and got UT to up the offer using us and hopefully Kelly was smart enough to see it and had several backup plans.
And he is ONE player. Going after several guys like that you will lose 1-2 but hit on way more than you would going after all elite talent who are just using LSU to get bigger offers from schools they really wanted to go to. Philips never wanted to come here. His agent and family played the game and won

Yep. Focus on the recruits elite programs don’t want. Develop them. Contend for the playoff every 3-4 years

The Mississippi State approach

The best money spent should be on the scouting dept. Find the talented, under the radar kids that you can develop. Shoot your shot with the known talent, but there are kids that don't camp or played FB late or are late bloomers. We have good coaches that can develop. Those are the kids that go to other programs, show out and hit the portal.

That’s the caveat though. All of these schools won’t win. Over time, interest in donating will decline. Even if it takes the feds stepping in, something will have to change because this current model will end collegiate athletics. What’s taking place right now is not even close to sustainable for even the richest programs.

Spend all the $ on the most advanced scouting cfb has ever seen and try to stay in state. Offer 2 stars and 3 stars that are hungry.

I'm sick of these "commitments" and might commit myself before it's all over(to an institution; not serious).
